Hi All
I'm looking for timings to commute from Gold Coast to Brisbane (by car) Arriving at South Bank for about 8am. Might have a job up there, and am looking at places to live.
Cheers

Mark,
The Gold Coast covers about 40km so a bit more info would be helpful as to roughly where you want to be based.
I live North GC and my office is in South BNE and the commute on the odd occasion I go in to the office can be a nightmare.
The best bet is probably the very good train line.

Anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on weather/traffic/accidents.
There's always accidents on that road Pacific Motorway at standstill after crash | The Courier-Mail (http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25239340-952,00.html)

Dont really know yet, If I am going to be driving then Helensvale end, but if getting the train its a toss up between spending 1 hour standing or 1 hour 15 sitting. Still need to go over all of the details with the gaffer, see what hours I can work etc. If its flexible I will try the driving option, If he says 9-5 then I will live else where.

Work in Brisbane, live in Brisbane. I can not understand why people choose to live a long slow drive or a long slow crowded passage on public transport away from their job.

Just a thought, but probably because they don't want to live in Brisbane.....

I take the train from Coomera to Central station (3 stops past Southbank) and takes an hour & 2 mins. Not bad in my books taking into consideration traffic/parking etc.

Hi Mark,
Helensvale wouldn't be too bad. I live in Ormeau which is a bit North of there and my commute would take about an hour. 40mins is about the best, but as Inside says, if there is an accident it can be very slow going.
Some of the bottle necks on the M1 include Nerang, and Springwood, aswell as where the Gateway exit is.
The train is getting pretty good now, and depending on time you may get a seat. It will run express from Bennleigh into the city now aswell.

I don't work in Brisbane....but I have 2 children who live up here...so I travel Tues arvo's, Wed mornings and Friday arvos to get them. SWMBO travels to Stones Corners on Monday mornings for work. We both travel from the south end of the coast. A good run for me on a Wed morn from here to Morningside...up the gate way is around an hour on a good morning.....hour and a half tops on a bad one.
Pretty much same on return in peak. Also take into consideration there are road works being done which can contribute to hold ups at times. I leave here about 7ish and get to Morningside around 8-8.15 am on average.
Once you get through the bottle necks...main one for you would be around Springwood....it is cruisy back down to the Coast. Much better living on the Coast as well....much nicer folk , and a brilliant LR club down there to I hear :whistling:

Occasionally I have to head from Coomera to Brizzy and I would rather leave earlier than later to avoid the Pacific carpark:p.
My new office is about 500m from the T&C in Nerang...when do yo retrobates have your monthly pow wow, 1st Thursday isn't it?

Its a case of what you want out of your days off, Currently I am in Sydney doing 1.5 hours each way a day (car + train + 20 minute walk) then its an hour to get anywhere good on the weekend and $100 each way in a taxi if we both want to drink. I am living there because its what we can afford.
I am happy to continue a similar commute if the weekends are better, closer to beach, close to big Pom community:twisted:, $30-$40 each way in a taxi to get on the pop for a night.
Gold Coast is not the only place, I'm just looking at options.

Wouldn't getting to Morningside be a fair bit quicker than getting to the city. I would have thought you get to turn off the freeway before you get the worst of the traffic and then turn off the arterial before you hit the queue for the bridge.
But I don't commute from that side of town anymore so don't really know the worst bits. I do remember sitting in the car for the best part of an hour to get from Morningside into the city.

What time was that? I am hoping to be there before 8.

I am going back to the mid 90's trying to get to work at about 8am so take my comments with a grain of salt. I am just raising the question that perhaps timings to Morningside may not be very relevant to a commute to the city or SouthBank.
You might also want to check out price of parking at Southbank. Going by the guys at work who used to park there the prices are not too bad compared to the city but I think they were up to $10 a day. Prices in town have skyrocketed the last 12 months.
I suspect you will get a seat on the train in the mornings but not likely in the afternoons as Southbank is after the two major stations so will probably be full by the time you hope on.

Parking is currently $12 a day at south bank. (according to the boss)
