Being mindful that my wife doesn't want me to fiddle with her 2001 TD4 :D, I purchased a TJM nudge bar today but just can't seem to figure out how to make it fit.

Now, I didn't get to see it on the previous car so I am immediately at a disadvantage.

The previous car was a 1999 FL (1.8 I think as there was no TD4 or V6 badge at the rear) which looked the same at the front but now I'm wondering if the underbody brackets/holes are different.

So, I pulled the front guard off the FL, removed the bash plate and plastic unde-engine cover. Here's the TJM nudge bar

and the brackets (there are two more bolts not shown)

and one of the brackets partly fitted to the front-left mounting point for the bash plate

Even if there was a second hole for the bracket in this location, the bottom of the nudge bar will not line up. Reversing the brackets doesn't work either.

I'm guessing that the nudge bar fitted to 1999 1.8 is not compatible with the 2001 TD4, although I haven't been able to confirm this over the past 2 hours trawling this site and the web.

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers, Paul.

Paul - I cannot help much here - I have a genuine landy nudge bar on my XEDI which would have been similar to your earlier Xei. What I do know is that earlier accessories sometimes do not fit post 2000 models.

That bar you have seems to be held on only at the bottom - where mine is bolted to the aluminium bumper that is hidden behind the plastic bumper about mid height - just below the line of the headlights. The supports at the bottom on mine are very light weight and used as stays rather than supports as the main strength is in the higher up fittings.

So the question is - did you get the right bar?

I finally got around to taking the nudge bar and FL TD4 over to Canberra Motor Works for Ray and his team to see if they could get it to fit.

No good. They reckoned it would be more hassle/cost than the nudge bar was worth to make it fit. So they gave me my money back and took the nudge bar off my hands.

I'm still in the market for a nudge bar for this car, but obviously I'll need to make sure I get one that suits the 2001 TD4. I'd like to get the genuine LR rubber/plastic A-Bar so I can put the pod lamps on, but Rave isn't much help in figuring out what the differences are for mounting a nudge bar on the TD4 compared to V6 or 1.8L models, or Pre- 2001MY models.

Any suggestions appreciated, and/or pics of the mountings of nudge bars on your 2001MY Freelanders (so we can pick the diff, if any).

Cheers, Paul.
