Hi all

I wonder if you guys have any suggestions for Day trips out of Sydney where you can have a bit of fun, but stay safe solo with the family in a pretty much stock D3 (may have ATR tyres). And no GPS.

Newnes SF behind Clarence station (Zig Zag) would be your best bet. Trivetts do their customer drive days up there with stock D3s.

There's plenty of tracks to choose from depending on your skill level & confidence.

Let us know when you are thinking of heading up there - always looking for an excuse for a day trip :).

Thanks Scott, thats a great suggestion, not sure when will go yet, heven't picked up the D3 yet, but will be keen to go and try it out. Do you know if you can get maps of the tracks? and do you need permits etc.

There are 1:25000 top maps of the area available from decent map/camping stores. 'Lithgow' & 'Cullen Bullen' cover most of the area.
Not all of the tracks are named though, just the major ones.
You can spend weeks up there & not do the same track twice so it's better if you know where you're going to find the good stuff :).

No permits/passes are required anywhere up there. It's mostly State Forest around Clarence. It's National Park a bit further west but still free access.

Ourimbah State Forest (I think it's called), in thru Palmdale at Ourimbah about 25 Minutes off F3 from Hornsby. No charges. FYI, I get a permit occasionally from State Forests to get firewood in this area.

Thanks for that, that will be very handy for me, I have ordered some state forests maps, so will see how we go
