Has anyone built a rear shelf for the cargo area of the Fender for speakers ?
I have 6x9's in awkward positions on the floor that were put in by the previous owner ... i need the floor space and storage area's a premium
So if you have any "safe and asthetic" ideas please let me know with pic's too !!
thanx all

This might help. Like you I have 8 x 10 speakers in the rear of my defender. I built 'boxes' of plywood to fit the corners. Each 'box, comprises a front and a base, a simple L shape with a piece of quandrant inside for strength. It's a bit of a fiddle getting a good fit. Mine are attached with two screws in the base, bolted through where the roof joins the walls. I added another piece of ply with an additional light too (need to remake this as a mod to the roof liner now makes it a poor fit as you can see). The speaker boxes are covered with a padded fabric which does a good job of filling any gaps.

Mate spot on thanx !
I was considering making a consul that ran along the side from the rear to the cargo barrier , and install a couple of cupboards and the speakers recessed into it ...
oh well start holidays next week so will have some time to play around

From the pics in your other thread, why not build a plywood box along on arch to house your battery box and put your speakers etc.. in as well. then cover it in the same carpet as your drawers so it blends in. i did it with the battery in the 90 but am now changing it to run right across the back of the bulkhead so i can get another battery in. heres my first battery box.

and i know you dont have the same bulkhead as me but you could run a box across the base of your cargo barrier and put it all in that way so it faces forward. kinda like this but it'll be behind the back seats and a little higher up.

hey DB this is the only other pic i have at the minute but i'll try and get some more on the weekend if you need any. i have 2 x 10" subs in mine so theres plenty of room. i mounted them into a piece of mdf cos initially they wouldn't go in far enough cos of the back of the drawer system. with the seats and cubby box in they are well hidden and it now has a sound system you can hear whilst your driving
sith sorry about the hi-jack

Here is mine that I knocked up yesterday, in the process of making the drawer for under the shelf. I've made it so that the shelf (and drawer) can be easily removed if extra space is needed. I'm also going to re-cover the back seat and run the carpet up the sides to the window sills and the back of the rear seat.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to get it all finished over the weekend.
