Where to put some extra auxiliary sockets?

I need to mount 3 extra auxiliary 12V sockets in the front area of the Puma for things like SatNav, iPod, phone charger etc. But were to put them:confused:

If anybody's got suggestions or better still pictures of what they've done I'd appreciate the feedback.

I've been thinking of mounting in a channel down the side of the cubby as there's enough room there.

I raised the cubby box about 100mm, mounted a 600W inverter under it and made up a panel at the front of the raised section to mount sockets. switches, indicator lights in etc. The panel sits at about a 60% angle to enable a good view of the components.

Sorry, no photos of the actual panel at present but here's one of the inverter mounting - some people mount a small 'safe' under the cubby box instead of the inverter. A bonus of raising the cubby box is that it ends up at a much better height to rest your arm on while driving.
Will post photo of panel when I get a chance to take one.

Another option is to use a console from Mud in the UK. I'm not sure if they make one for the new Puma, but I just received mine for my old 200tDi - and it comes with 3 power outlets. It fits around the gearstick/transfer case and is secured by the two rear bolts - works a treat.

Thanks Roger, you've given me a few idea's - I already have raised the cubby, but what's underneath precludes putting anything there. I like the idea of the front panel you've made though and this has some definite possibilities. I need to mount a switch, fuse and 3 plugs and wire back to the battery box.

Chris, thanks for the suggestion but the Puma dash is light years away from previous setup in the Defenders. If you haven't seen one have a look on the Land Rover website. You'll then understand why a Mud console isn't an option.

Another advantage I found by having most of your accessory switches & sockets together is that I only had to run one heavy duty +ve cable and one decent earth. This means that if you ever need to remove the panel for maintenance or to fit an extra switch or socket then you only have to disconnect two wires and you can remove the whole panel to the workshop for the modifications.

I've done my dual battery set-up in a similar way and once again, disconnect a couple of wires and the whole lot can be removed - thumbnails attached.

I put a couple of 12 volt sockets on either side of the cubby box and mounted the HF on the back. I use marine grade sockets that twist in and lock so they don't rattle out on rough corrugated tracks etc.

I also made a mount for my fridge in the back seat by taking out the single seat on the passenger side. Under this I mounted an inverter which I used to charge the AA D size battery charger, cryovacer iPod etc.

I hope the photos came out I will get the hang of posting photos properly one day
