Air jacks

Has anyone used an air jack system with a TDV6? As the vehicle has twin exhausts will the air bag actually fill or will the exhaust gas take the path of least resistance and exit via the pipe not connected to the air bag?
If this is the case can you block up the end of the exhaust?

Im assuming you mean an exhaust bag jack.....

yep it'll work. On a shared dual exhaust I plug up the bag, start the engine and then cover the other pipe with a thong or floormat and then it'll pump up no worries. Most bags have a one way flap in them so that once inflated they dont deflate through the exhaust.


a true dual exhaust it doesnt matter as you essentially have 2 3 cylinder engines

You can get one of these test plugs from a plumbers supplies. The rubber was because the plug was just too small. I think it was 40mm and 50 was difficult to get in.
Much easier especially if in own.

Reece Plumbing supplies sell a bung that fits my D3 V6 Petrol exhaust perfectly. The part number is 205860. Description: Testing Plug Alum - Plain 50mm. It was AU$42.48 inc GST.

Just bought a Bushranger air jack from ARB for my TDV6. The guy thought a bung in the second exhaust might act like a missile and to use the air compressor attachment instead. (I'll set up camp while the thing is inflating).
Second comment was that the engine may have an "over pressure sensor" type thging that may prevent full inflation.
Anyone with experience of either bungs blowing out or bags not fully inflating?

No problems at all with using the exhaust witha bung. You should know better than ask ARB about a D3 ;)
Use a 50mm test plug from a plumbers supply I have failed to tighten it properly once and it did shoot out but the D3s exhausts point downwards and it just hit the ground. I have never herard if anyone having problems using the exhaust and yes and it is much quicker than a compressor.

The air bags are low pressure - hence the don't sink into sand, etc. The pressure on the exhaust should be the same, so while you may pop the bung out as Caver managed you will need to perform some crazy mythbusters modifications to turn it into a ballistic missile!

or a pool shop, they usually have bungs in 40 and 50mm sizes

Hi, Just to reinforce what CaverD3 said, I have had the bung come out, it traveled downwards and hit the dirt, and I then learnt to tighten it up properly. It did make a bit of a boom, made me jump, all part of learning not to undertighten. So after I cleaned the dirt of the thread end, I put it back in and the D3 continued to rise nicely. The bag did not deflate wen the bung came out it just stopped going up.
I had a choice of the Bushranger model with the compressed air inlet, and without. One ARB outlet insisted the one with the air inlet was important, as they did not like the idea of trying to jack a D3 with the exhaust, they probably also wanted to sell a ARB compressor and a high lift jack. Well I decided this ARB dealer knew little about the D3, especially after the manager said I had made a big mistake in my purchase! Have a look at this youtube video

It seems the guy in the video blocks one of the tail pipes with a similar type of funnel as to what is found on the end of the air jack hose, except of course its blocked off. One problem I see with that is you have to stay dead central behind the car and can't be peaking around the side watching it inflate to help you stop early and adjust to avoid problems. Well the short answer is the bung works well for me! And now I know that it has to be tight!!!.
