Any suggestions on how to get more Power/Torque right off idle.
Its a manual TD5.
I have an upgraded ECU, EGR eliminator kit, silicone hoses and the centre muffler removed.
Once I get past 1500rpm, no problem but before this nothing.
Its all good on level ground but put on a trailer or a slight incline and try and get it moving, too much clutch riding/slipping for my liking.
I just can't ease the clutch out and power away, I have to get it up to 1500rpm before I let the clutch out all the way:(
This is only a problem from a standing start, or if I'm being real lazy and let the revs drop down too low in top gear.
Cheers Lionel.

Bigger intercooler will help things along, but turbo lag is turbo lag and you need to drive accordingly.

I asked the same question to a repair shop that does upgrades too.
Their comment after test driving my TD5 D2 was that I got one of the slower ones and there is nothing to do about it. Get used to using the clutch.
Kinda wears out the clutch very quickly!
Another way of not playing the clutch is reving it to 2K and releasing the clutch very quickly. TC does the rest.:wasntme:
Do not do it often. Side shafts are expensive.

ive never thought of a stock TD5 as being slow?

i started in a stock 90 td5...it was plenty quick even after all the mods and the chip it didnt really change where the turbo cut in. still around the stock rev range.

i drove a stock D2 auto the other day and it felt much quicker off the mark than the 90 ever did.
i know there is a differance in KW's between the 2 but i still put it down to the auto.

cheers phil

If your d2 is pre 02 then it may not have the flash reprogramable ecu. They had a different program to the earlier ones and low end power was one of things it sort to improve. I see yours has been chipped but it still might be part of the cause. My 02 has way more low down power than the earlier cars I have driven one of which was chipped and mine is totally standard.

Hi Lionel
One thing I found on my D2.
Check your D2's boost hoses for leaks or cracks.
Replace them with silicon hoses and proper clamps.
I had a small leak/crack on mine.
Replaced with silicon hoses and the low down torque improve a litle bit.
No more extencive using of the clutch.
Just be careful of wide hose clamps.
They tend to clamp on the flair. This will cause the hose to blow off the pipe. Kinda sounds like a turbo race car dump vvalve.
Happened to me 4 times on Monday.

I increased the bost on my 200TDI many years ago and this assisted in spooling up a lot quicker.

I read somewhere on this form that you can do it on a TD5 but you need to be carefull with the ECU. Something like that.

Worked on the turbo hoses today and one clamp whent over the flair not noticing it.
Was the same as before.
no power up to boost level and clutch had to be used gently.
Fixed the clamp and presto. No more clutch dancing even on inclines.
