110 Service requirements

Hi,
My 110 (2005) is due for a service soon. will book to book it into MR in Redcliffe.
Anyone know what oil they put in on services? or is it advisable I provide my own oil for them to put in ... and if so.. any recommendations on oil brand to use in a td5.

I don't know what they use and I have never dealt with them.

But my personal opinion is that taking your own oil to a mechanic to use when doing a service is like taking your own food to a restaurant and expecting them to cook it.

Rick 130 on here is teh man for oil info.

I use 5w40 Valvoline Synpower in mine now. Used to Use LR branded 5w30 in the UK but you cant buy it from dealers over here

I disagree. I appreciate it when a client brings in the oil they want me to use in the service.

as the vehicle owner paying for the service if you have a prefered oil its your right to ask for it to be used. If it takes 6 hours to locate that oil thats what you get billed for 6 hours labour + the inflated cost of the oil + the transport cost IF they even use the oil you ask for instead of putting in whatevers in engine oil pump #1 and telling you they went and got what was wanted.


BUT if you're short your pooched, if the oils the wrong type and you've specifically instructed that that oil be used then your also pooched.

Honest companies dont have much of a margin on oils and most of it gets eaten into by the disposal and waste oil handling costs (used engine oil is about the 3rd most hazardous substance in your vehicle) be prepared to take a waste oil disposal fee.


I dont think MR will mind but ring them first.

They use Valvolene oils - synthetic in my Puma. MR are very good - I trust them to use appropriate fluids of the highest quality and they do.

Castrol 0W40 full synthetic good stuff. In TDI's I used Castrol Turbo Max R I thnk it was.

As you can see I like Castrol.

I think oil to some people are like doctors accountants bank managers and mechanic's once you've decided you like then you tend to stick with them.

Other people don't give a XXXT.

Regardless of which oil you choose I think you should stick to the same oil through the life of the vehicle.

I agree if you go to the same mechanic and you supply the oil generally they are fine. It's when you start supplying all the parts they start to loose out.

The blokes I use when to do my work I always ask the price and tell them what I've been quoted. Generally they're the same or with a few $

I would kindly suggest if a mechanic was to charge me 6hrs labour to get the oil I wanted then I would bring my own oil along too.......and to a different mechanic. :wasntme:

However, I appreciate the mechanic may not have the time to go oil shopping, so I would suggest for the sake of the consumer, and the mechanic, that you get a detailed quote up front for servicing.:D

We took our 05 110 in for it's first non-dealer service yesterday. MR did a **full service** + upgraded the front hubs to maxidrive oil feed bits for less than the stealer was going to charge for a service. I really tried to get out of the stealer what they were intending to do but it was impossible.

MR were still cheaper.

I took my own engine, transfer case, and gearbox oil. I should have sent LSX in for the diffs but I didn't get there. They didn't mind at all. :)

The stupid stealer couldn't work out the oils that I sent them last year and they put their oil in the gearbox. MR put syntrans back in and the gearbox is beautiful again :)
