I assume you're talking about the AM/FM antenna?

GME make AM/FM whip antennas in a couple of different lengths. I think you'll need to replace the cable up to the radio to install though.

Just replace it with a steel spring based telescopic antenna from supercrap or repco or any aftermarket car parts store for about 15$ and you will be happy;)

You can get an antenna amplifier, that sticks to the inside of the windsceern and acts as an aerial. A bit like the Classic Range Rovers have on the back window. That way there's no external aerial at all to break.

Just going on the whip antenna idea.
I fitted one to my Rodeo by getting a 5/16 bolt and using the solder tabs from an old antenna base.
By bolting the new bolt up through the hole using the original plastic isolator and pretty bits, I then used an old CB antenna spring effectively as a nut to hold it all together. Then just screwed the whip antenna on.
I used a new bolt as the CB base bolt was too short.
Worked very well.
No idea what a Defender base looks like but I have looked into it on the Disco1 and it looks like it will fit (MY95/96)
A tip so you don't have to pull the radio out and run a new cable. Cut the cable off the old antenna and fit an inline socket to it. Make it somewhere accessible and dry. Then plug the new antenna into that.
