Anyone able to shed any light on annoying squeak coming from in front of the bulkhead/engine bay area whilst driving on rough roads? 2004 Defender 90. It can also be heard as the TD5 engine is turned off and rattles to a stop.
Any ideas?

Cheers

Perhaps a mouse has made your engine bay home?

Mine gets squeaks from the front also, which are the bonnet hinges. A few drops of lube fixes it for a few months (depending how much you wash it). But they never squeak when I turn it on and off, so who knows. The only time mine squeaked when I turned it on/off was when I had belt issues.

Try putting some light general purpose oil on the rubber inserts on the bonnet hinges. Always works on my 200tdi. I get that squeak occasionally and some oil on the hinges always stops it.

I spose the next complaint is about the water leaks in your Defender aswell ;):p

I actually have this squeak too - I was going to install a cat but might just get some oil on the bonnet hinges now - thanks guys! :D

Thanks guys!

Funny story, there has been a mouse living in there at some time as it had eaten the wiring insulatuin off a few wires.. tell tale little teeth marks..

Might just try that cat!

i had the exact same squeek! rather loud metalic in sound, only happened when turning the engine off!
i tightened the engin mount bolts to the chassis, that stopped it for 2 weeks... been there for 3 years and 40 thous k's!
i finally got rid of it last sunday!!!! when i sold the 90:(

cheers phil

Check the exhaust manafold. They tend to work themselves lose on the TD5 and do cause the sweaking noise and rattle on start up and shut off
