Does anyone in Aust fabricate or import bulkhead parts?

There is a thread on LRSOC re bulkhead restoration showing a top rail (above vents, designed for moss and rust to grow in) bought 'off-the-shelf' from a UK firm (Radfords?).

This would seem to be a common problem. What do others do?

Most parts of any bulkhead can be fabricated at home with a little ingenuity and using high school level metalwork skills (which is what I do).

However, in the event that you do not have enough tools or skills to make your own parts; finding someone locally who is a panel beater is a good step towards getting them to show you the ropes.

Occasionally I have to use the local engineering firm to do long bends in sheetmetal for me, which is usually a cheap and painless exercise but it helps if you stand nearby and make sure that the bend really is done on the line and not somewhere near it, as once happened to me. :(

I used to hate panel work but now I enjoy it, since a retired panel beater showed me how easy it is,

Is there a source for replacement bulkheads in the UK? Maybe it'd be worth shipping a few over? Anyone looked into that?

Your TAFE seem to run these courses a fair bit. I often see them on the Cruizin' show (made in Aus.) that plays on our local community tele station here. From what I've seen they look pretty cool.

I enrolled in the local TAFE 11 years ago .. then you get to use sheet metal folders ..welders..guilotines ..plasma cutter... power hack saw ..lathe ... 60 ton press and you have an experienced teacher to guide you .

Mind you..its all gone now..they closed the engineering shop and instead, they run courses on how to serve alcohol..I kid you not ... :o

Whats Mr Rudd doing about it ..he's doing this

1956 86" S1Andrew Morris in the UK was doing bulkheads for Series 2 and last I heard they were well over a thousand pounds. Then you have to add the cost of shipping to Oz and I think you will find it easier to repair your own.

Aaron.

Aaron
It s a later 48/49
been pressed, not made out of flat sheets like the first 48's firewalls
cheers
