If you can fit the RHS under the body just living the pipe work out it would be Ok I think.
They have to be a bit out to do the job.
Cheers

Neat looking job. I think you are right they'd look better if you had the flares from a Defender. But then again they give you some side protection and a step. No matter what you do if you want that , it's going to have to stick out the side

I know all about having side steps. Couldn't by the D1, D2 or Puma without them because someone is short and has to put her foot down about somethings :(.

One thing that's worth considering though is with this set up if you have a roof rack you can then make a platform plate that would clip on to the rail and give you a solid platform to stand on and reach things off the side. It would also double as a jacking plate.

Anyway you're better off than having the standard side steps that loose you about 4" of clearance on the sides:(

I can see you are looking at this from every angle ;) The fixtures worry me a tad. I don't know that the milk crate and blocks of wood will last very long

Dare I suggest some bolts

I think once you get them on and get used to them they will no longer look "dickie" to you :D

I agree with NM,
I treid fitting side steps the same way and by about 200ks the milk crate had almost completely worn away....:D

I think paint them black, it will match them to the car a bit, and "hide them" to a degree, do it now and look... the other thing is that this now promotes people kicking the side skirt as they use your step!!...

One option to get around that would be to remove those side skirts (look at any exmil 2a..) and install the steps then... the side skirts can be replaced at anytime but once dinged up.....

my 2C anyway! (maybe they should be a touch deeper?) Other option in the spring/swing down steps??

cheers

Yep, they look great. As mentioned, once they are bolted up in place, painted black and maybe with some chequer plate?? tacked on, it will convince you. You've made them, there is only one way to go now....:)

Yeah - I like them too. Above all - very practical.

Paint them up and bung them on.

Hey Banjo, I reckon they look great. I especially like the pipe, it's different in a good way. Once they're painted, they'll look real sweet. Good job. :D

I'm with the others, go for it. Gives it a bit of an industrial look.

Yeah they stick out a bit but black doesn't catch the eye so match. And if you want it to be a step it will need to stick out.

I reckon they won't look half as bad as you think once they are black ;)

I'm with Pat, they look excelent :D
