Folks
Still haven't got my D3 yet but I'm starting to arrange the extra bits of kit I want fitted.
I got a quote from ARB Townsville for a steel, non winch, colour coded, Bull Bar fitted for $2300. Is this, in your experience a reasonable price?
Also, this thing I need because I have LED lights on my off road trailer, what is it, what does it do, how much & who sells them?
Thanks in advance.

PS Not sure I want the colour coded Bull Bar, black would do but SWMBO has different ideas.

Colour coded - as in red for faster? Or do you want a colour matched bar? (Sorry, I'm an electronics tech where colour coding means something.)

Re the LED lights, you need a Pulse Shunt. See LAB Electronics Electronics for the Automotive Industry (http://www.labtronx.com.au/)

Ron is correct (as usual in these matters). Well nearly, ARB refer to it as "colour coordination". We may now enter a discussion about which term is more appropriate. I'm in favour of matching personally. But anyway....

The RRP for the bar is $1640 and fitting is $385, matching $220, exclusive of freight, as of Dec '08, so you can work out what's reasonable or not.

Post a photo of the car, or similar, and we'll give you opinions. I kept my bar black as the roofrack, snorkel and flares are also black. However, '09 models have colour code^h^h^h matched flares so matching would probably be a better idea. Consider the final look of the car in any case after all accessories.

I agree. To my mind, colour coordination could refer to a colour that doesn't match, but does complement the base colour...

ARB will happily supply you with say a red bullbar for your white car if that's what you want, and that may be coordinated depending on what the other colours are. But most people will either go for black, or change to match their vehicle's body colour.

There is a market gap here for an expert Photoshopper to create concepts of vehicles so decisions like this can be made.

I have the "Phase Shunt" it works well; we have used it for several years.

We also have an ARB winch bar without the winch, colour matched to the car. We tow a heavy van and I wanted the extra air directly onto the radiator, I got some black plastic gutter guard for the winch hole.

I have found deferring to SWAMBO's wishes is conducive to longer life, decent meals etc, you get the idea, she's my boss.

Home fitting is easy with a friend to help lifting, as the instructions were quite explicit with lots of photo's etc.

Sorry, colour coded as in "Colour Matched" to the car. Silver car = silver bull bar. The ARB bloke used that term.:(
The car is an 09 so will have the coloured guard flares.
The ARB bar is the only one I have spied that seems to suit the car, the TJM one (in photos anyway) looks to hang down a long way.
I'm over alloy bars, the alloy seems to stain with our red mud & last time I hit a big roo the alloy bar did the job & I could still drive but the bar was a total write off.
So, going on rmp's pricing & taking into account freight & a year or so on in time, $2300 would seem reasonable to me.
I will order a phase shunt asap. What sort of trailer plugs does the Discovery come with? 7 pin round or flat?
Thanks

PS like the look of the cars front bumper but bars are a must have around here.

Make sure they use relays for lights on the bar. They didn't on mine and things went weird.:o

Did you try low wattage (parker) globes in the b/bar blinkers?

I don't remember fitting relays to the ARB lights on my D3, but as I had them fitted to my D1 bar, I may have done it automatically. I'll check tomorrow.

If needed, it is no big deal.

Best Wishes,
Peter

ARB told me they needed to be fitted. They also wired the parkers in the bar to the side markers (they were on with the ignition)

Kev (or TF as I know you better)
I have to have every thing arranged prior to picking the new car up, we will only have a few days in Townsville & I don't want to spend them running about doing stuff that can be done by phone (Email), I just want to go in, sign some papers & drive away.
Probably won't be that simple but!

I'm just about to fit my ARB winch bar, I didn't know about using relays, how are they wired in?

Sorry NFI. Just what I was told, said mine was an early one and they use relays now.
Awaiting ARB to get in the relay harness. I need to ring to remind them methinks.

In Victoria Led lights are okay but not fully legal unless reflecters are also used. Most of the old lenses had the reflectors built in.

Cheers.
