View Full Version : My first Kingy
catch-22

Fished South West Rocks over the weekend and landed my first Kingy.
First big hit saw my 60lb outfit last about 6 seconds. Second hit was not so big and on 80lb gear managed to get it in to the boat. Only a small one but gosh do they run. Measured 66cm and weighed in at 1.75kg.
Now I'm addicted to King fishing :D:D

My wife has some family connections with Lord Howe Is. Some years ago while there we went out on one of the relatives boats. There was about 6 of us fishing at the time and about half of those were sea sick, including me.
We motored over to just off Balls Pyramid and using hand lines we filled 2 x 44 gal drums with king fish in about 2 hours. Unbelievably exciting pulling in those fish, but still, I could not wait to get back to shore - just nothing left to chunder over the side.
This is my one and only fishing story, I hate boats and don't like fish but if I going to eat it then king fish in beer batter is the best.

Yep your right and I should have known :D:D
By the way, look at those conditions - 21 both days and sea was flat as....even if we hadn't caught anything, it was great being out there..

Gotta love catching kingy's, i've only targeted them on light gear in the boat, about 12lb braid on bream gear (awesome fun:D)
Off the rocks i had to go a bit heavy'er using 30lb braid and 50lb leader on spin gear and was very close to being busted off, my brother did twice using the same gear, and they were only around 60-80cm:eek:
