As the title says: How old are the tyres on your Land Rover?

If you have more than 1 Landie - them pick the landie with the oldest tyres (as long as it is driven on-road). If you have more than one set of tyres, pick the oldest set you drive on-road with.

EDIT - I have enabled multiple votes, so you can vote for multiple vehicles/sets of tyres.

Tyres on the Disco are 3 years old. I know they will outlast the "5 year" theory and I'll be using them to the last. For me it's all about minimum cents per km, maximum efficiency:angel:.

Soon as mine reach 5 years, no matter the wear, they are gone (unless they wear out sooner). Nearly had a major pile up because a set of tyres had gone hard, even though they had lots of tread life left. I value my life and the lives of my family more than the cost a set of tyres.

big red rubber is about 2 years old. I get about 4 years out of a set.

fozzys rubber is about 7 but I drive to the limitation of the tyres (like I have a choice with a 2.25 diesel)

Which tyres, which Landrover?

On the 110 they vary from about six months to about three years, on the 2a they are around four years except for the extra spare which is about six.

Do not seem to be provision to put this information in the poll so I haven't tried.

You can (could have) vote multiple times for each set of tyres. I did say put down your oldest set of tyres which see road use.

the disco has BF MT which were put on at 136,000 km 's , the car now has 198,000 km , they still have some tread left. that was over 6 years ago now.

I inherited a set of dunlod grandtrek MT2 muddies off a mate after he sold his rangie, he got them 2nd hand and did 33k on them as play tyres, i got them with approx. 50-60 % tread 4 years ago. I was keeping just for play tyres but as they are 265/75/16's they seem to make the tdi cruise better and correct the speedo so i just left them on and i cant kill them - guessing they are at least 8 years old.

Running on BF Goodrich All Teraians & average 100,000Ks per set & am on my third set.

Previous BF Goodrich AT's lasted 90000Km had to replace them at 4 years old and were only worn 2/3.
They got rock hard, had no grip on tar and started to break up off road.
Current set has only 20000Km on.

On my SIII, only god knows how old they are and even then I wouldn'e be sure that he knows....

They are so old that they look like solid rubber. Try and deflate them and nothing will happen

Ambrose' P/O put his Hankook tyres on in 2002 for a round NSW trip. ;)

They still have 95% tread and will be swapped for a set of bar treads so the Hankooks can go on Gus. :)

I have got a set of Michelin LTX MS tyres on my County that have done 110,000kms and still have 4mm of legal tread left! Unfortunately they are almost 10 years old so i will be replacing them soon.

Got a brand new, unused mitchalin spare from 1990 when it was new. It is on a rim that has never been on a car [unless of course the previous owner purchased a brandnew matching rim and tyre] the 4 road tyres were new when I got the RRC, but of course I do not know how long these road tyres were on the shelf before they were put on car. Have at home, on sunraysia rims, a pair of silver stone tyres that have been on 3 different RRC fronts and are not worn out yet. they would be about 4-6 years old. Might reuse these on the rear later.

well all I can say is after reading the mileage you guys get from non coopers tyres that their brag of 90k is nothing. I personally have put over 90k on two sets of venturers (each) and now look like doing same with geolanders and I run 46psi unless I'm in the paddocks. the coopers guys argued like hell with me at the recent gold coast 4wd show about my tyre pressures and mileage I have been getting......but theyre just young fellas and know it all, hahaha

You just made me remember that in the shed I have a 235/85-16 BFG mud terrain with 80-90% tread. When I bought my Trac Edges in 1996 I bought it 2nd hand as a spare!!! So it is over 13 years old!!! I only used it once, when I had a blowout on one of my (2yo at the time) Trac Edges.

about an hour old! The bfg's removed today were nearly 2 years & 40k old - not a good result!

I recently purchased a set of factory alloys for my 98 TDi Disco, whereby the steel rims became a spare set to fit some BFG AT's onto in good time when I have the money.
Anyways the tires that came with the alloys, according to the codes, are 12-13 years old. They're Michelin XPC's, and have at least 80% left in them. They also don't seem that hard, are lovely and quiet, and are fine in the wet and on bitumen as far as I can tell. At this stage I've been using them as my town tyres, knowing that I will have to use the steelies with yet to be purchased BFG's for any high speed and off road work.
My question is, if I have a prang, will the insurance company be likely to check the tyre age, or simply note that the tyres look almost new as far as the tread goes and then be ok with that?

I just checked the spare 285/75-16 that I bought for the IIA in December 2007. I was surprised that it was date stamped mid 2004!!!

I bought it from Ryano at Fourbys Moorooka. Very Cheap. Highly Recommended!!!

Some may not be aware that the coding system is a bit different for tyres that were made pre-2000. A quick google search will give the details.

Some may not be aware that the coding system is a bit different for tyres that were made pre-2000.

This explains the differences

Reading the code. The code is pretty simple. The three-digit code was used for tyres manufactured before 2000. So for example 1 7 6 means it was manufactured in the 17th week of 6th year of the decade. In this case it means 1986. For tyres manufactured in the 90's, the same code holds true but there is a little triangle after the DOT code. So for this example, a tyre manufactured in the 17th week of 1996 would have the code 176triangle
After 2000, the code was switched to a 4-digit code. Same rules apply, so for example 3 0 0 3 means the tyre was manufactured in the 30th week of 2003.

I suspect many of the people who voted in this thread voted based on when they purchased their tyres, rather than the date code???
