Hi all,
I've had a number of requests to post photo's of my '96 P38 now fitted with the 2001+ style black surround headlights and R/R Sports style grill.
All parts were imported from the UK, not really cheap, so if you have no kids, no mortgage, no living costs....;)...seriously though, worth while I reckon if you gonna hang on to your P38 for a while....

Is that a P38A grille which has been drilled and painted to look like an RRS grille?

no, although it looks similar, it is a different mould, heavier plastic and different shaped 'grill'

Now you need some clear blinkers. :)

Is it just me, or does it look a bit bentley'ish at first glance.
Looks good, but incomplete. Clear blinkers and a colour cooded bumper would look complete (mabe even the 2000+ fog lights)
Also, did you install that silver piping on the bumper? If so where did you get it, it looks very nice.

Dunno about Bentley-ish but I agree about the clear blinkers.
If Romulus was up here he could fit mine to see how it looks.
Here's mine after:

Did you have any problems putting those rims on the P38?

I have the same rims on mine. I had to buy 4 hubcentric rings to centre the wheels on the hubs.

Hey Ron where did you get the drivers side window rain gaurd? Been after one of them for a long time
Romulus

yep, as already answered, you need to get adapter rings for the 18" wheels....
in reply to clear blinkers....yeah been thinking about that...will think a bit more about that :-)

Off the Markets here. When PaulP38A drowned his P38A, he sold off all his accessories - then decided to buy another P38A.
If he wants them (I have both sides), I'll let him have them back.

yeah, silly me on both counts... drowning a P38A and then buying another :)
Ron - thanks for the offer but they are yours now.
Aussie - I bought them from some wholesaler in Perth off eBay early/mid last year. Haven't seen them again since. I'll let you know if I spot them again.
Romulus - definately... go the clear indicators too ;)
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Tasi - was delivery price reasonable? By the look of the ad, it is for all 4 deflectors too? US$95 seems ok. Please keep us informed how you go with them and if you think they are worth the price.
Romulus - I reckon these would look beaut on your blinged-up Rangie. Might distract the eye from those RRS side vents :) Although I love the RRS and those vents, they just look too big on a P38A IMHO.
cheers, Paul.

Personally, i think Those vents are for the rrs, and the p38 is more related to the vouge, so it needs verticle vents if anything. However, if you insist that you use the sport vents, incorporate the blinker in the middle somehow, (mabe a bmwM3 blinker?), and sit it lower on the guard.

here are the updated photo's of my P38 with the 'white' lights, yes, it does look better than the older orange types :)

Now that looks sexy. Sorry but before with the orange it just looked wrong, bit like mutton dressed as lamb as the saying goes.
Actually I don't mind the sport air vents either but do they flush fit as they appear on the sport or do they sit proud of the panel work. The sport looks like the cut out is depressed so the grills sit flush but I haven't seen one close enough to be sure. Would get in the way of snorkel fitment if ever a good one comes out but it looks like your car wouldn't the services of a snorkel anyway (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Romulus
29th July 2009, 07:58 PM
yeah...know what you mean...I kept looking at it and just could not put my finger on what was not quite right....the clear lights have made all the diff
the vents sit proud but it does not look out of place at all...well I think anyway :)....I don't think a snorkel would look good on a P38...

Hey Romulus - it looks great with the clear indicators. A nice finishing touch might be to colour code the bumpers. That would look really cool.
I don't think a snorkel would look good on a P38...
well not on your car - it's too pretty for a snorkel :D
Mine on the other hand, has enough uneven paintwork, dents and scratches, and other off-road kit to get away with it.
I'd like to say that I have the Freelander as the "pretty" car but I know that won't fool anyone
Cheers, Paul.

I had a good think about colour coding the bumper, but I do like the contrast between the silver, chrome and black.
Thats pretty much it now as far as 'blinging' it up, just get the bonnet re sprayed.....have already spent too much on it....but then again....why not ey!! :)
My partner drives the Disco, a snorkel would look nice on that, but for a V8 it would be more cosmetic and since none of us go off roading these days, not worth the money really
The only Land Rover in our family that will see any real dirt is our '76 LWB Series III, once it is back on the road with the 'new' 202 :)

Romulas you didnt happen to be driving down wells/boudary road about 3-4 weeks ago? I'm sure I saw a P38 same color as yours with a RRS grill on it? I had to look twice and said to the Mrs, He's put a RRS grill on that, and came the reply "thats nice love"

"thats nice love"
Are you newly weds? you got 3 whole words... :D
My wife's response to most observations about Range/Land Rovers is usually confined to 1 or 2 syllables.
I have a theory that our better halves consider showing any interest in the shiny/cool things we notice on the road will be interpreted by us mere men-folk as permission to go and buy it.
Unless it is a Freelander like hers, then there is a little bit of interest if it has shinier wheels or a nice paint job... mostly it's the "I like mine just the way it is" line, which is wife-speak for "don't you dare touch it - it does not need body armour, a 50mm lift and M/T's to get me to work, take the dog to the dog-park and go shopping" ;)

Hmmm me also... it's the LR "wave" which has more recently caused ripples in her normally serene state
"why do you do that?" she asks...
"do what" I reply :angel::wasntme:

Just went back and looked at the last lot of photo's with clear lense... that is THE #1 SEXIEST P38 I have seen. Well done!
I don't really like those young fella ones with 100" wheels, massive AMP's and big sub-WOOPers!
Did you advise where that chrome strip stuff comes from?
Romulus
5th August 2009, 04:31 PM
:) thanks for that!
The chrome strips on the rubber mouldings & bumpers came from a mob in the USA ex eBay, all pre cut to the correct length, just peel backing and stick!
I will try and find who the seller was.

they look sweet, no adhesive strips, no clips....they just snug up inside the window frame. like a rat up a drain. well worth the dollars
i had some on the front with the adhesive strip so really only wanted the backs,....but they looked so good i pulled the front ones off and put the new ones on to match the back.
i will take pics later this week if you like
