I gave a last minute wave but don't think he saw me.

Probably not expecting someone in a P38 to wave.

Hey mate....will keep an eye out next time. Was up picking my children from school. I do remember seeing a P38....but no....probably didnt expect a wave. From memory was it a greenish colour? Smokeys pretty hard to miss with the AULRO and GCLRO stickers and wheel cover :D,

Yes it is green ! Subliminal recognition.

I usually look at the rego first to see if it looks familiar, which yours did for some reason.

Then I saw all of the GCLRO stuff on the back in the mirror.
