I have seen a few cars over the last few months using LPG and no warning labels on there number plates, some have been deliberatley removed.

The reason they are there is to help emergency services esp fire fighters know that there is another source of fuel or safety concern. Drivers aren't always conscious or alive (sadly) and the cylinders aren't easy to see if they are in the boot that has been crushed etc, so please help by making sure the LPG labels are on your number plates and dont remove them not matter how daggy or trivial they look.

Gas is explosive but it is handled safely if the emergency services know its there.. :)
PLEASE MAKE SURE or ASK THE LPG CO TO REPLACE THEM OR THE ROAD AUTHORITY.

Thanks for helping do your part and please tell your friends its not a big thing but it is to the fire fighters esp the CFA/CFS etc volunteers and their families..:D

The stickers are available from ford spare parts as a kit. When we bought our dedicated gas Falcon unreg from Victoria (with no plates) I had some difficulty tracking down someone who knew where to get the stickers.

It wasnt a white AU ex kitchens company car? That was my favourite car until Stue came along (of course) :-)
Yes I have heard they are a little tough to get and thanks for getting some. The decated AU wagon we bought near new had two cylinders and required two labels per number plate which makes sense but never knew until then.

I thought the stickers were manditory and came from the transport/registery office with and stuck onto the plates.

and the poprivet metal ons are evan better idea as you can see them if the cars on fire and before people start worrying they arnt that explosive aslong as they are well maintaind they will slowly vent if crushed or heat is aplyed

if you can not get a sticker localy from your local gas fitter who should carry them on the shelf you can pop rivet a 25mm square on its edge as a diamond this is also good as when a car is up in smoke you can also see it has a badge for gas as stickers can burn off . you can end up with a canary sticker on your window for not having the correct badges for the correct amount of gas tanks. more money to throw away for pit inspection and posiably a bigger list of repairs. ;)

My local gas fitter has them in stock. They pop rivet the metal-backed ones to the numberplates.

The gas fitter should put the diamonds on the number plates (at least in NSW).

By the time the fire services get in scene one half is generally gone so the opposite plate can be seen at times but what happens when it catches fire after an accident and your blissfully unaware of the LPG just because it looked cool to the owner?? Nothing is simple hence the stickers or pop plates. Yes they should be there however when a car is re reg it does not get them automatically!!! Not the job of Vic Roads apparently to uphold their laws despite the vehicle being registered for LPG. It seems at odds with all who make the rules.
I hope some gas fitters see this and help promote this too.

Nah, Ex Police Basically an XR6 on dedicated gas, just no body kit. Must have been the bosses car, no scrapes underneath, no holes in anything and the phone kit wires hadn't even been untaped.
The Ford kit has the aluminium squares, stickers and even the pop rivets.

The placards arent that easy to get.
When I got my polycarbonate"LANDYANDY" numberplates I wasnt about to pop rivit the exsisting LPG placards off my old plates onto my new ones(had a Ser3 on LPG at the time).I was happy to put a sticker style that I could remove later but couldnt get them.I pop rivited the original onto the landy next to my plate.

They should be available from most lpg suppliers (not general fuel stations), lpg fitters and state energy departments as well as licencing and RTA. Bigger ones are available from truck parts suppliers etc
Any signage place usually also stocks them or can make them to size. They must conform to the dangerous goods standards and it is compulsory to display the little diamond that is being discussed. It is only mandatory for large volume carriers to display the full dg placarding.
Generally on approach to any vehicle fire we would treat it as being a possible alternate fueled vehicle until having proved otherwise. There is generally not really an issue as if the lpg unit is serviceable they will generally vent off not explode. It is still possible however if there is a component failure and may lead to a BLEVE.
Usually one plate is identifiable. It is also a good idea to put one on your windscreen and rear window as these are at eye height.
It is actually more of a danger to approach a vehicle that has an invertor set up as 240v and water/firefighting medium do not mix. Fire fighters a fairly well protected from resulting lpg flash or explosion with their level 2 gear if on, but not so from the 240v from an invertor. But hey caravan fires etc with similar set ups are just as dangerous.

my experience of LPG explosion doesnt quite agree with that theory!!..
unless your suit is made of supermans cape??

level 2 will assist prevent most burns, but as to explosions...ouch!

...
the reason that the LPG stickers etc are in centre of front/back plates is because it is a universal place to look...windows break, in the prang and in any intense heat...dont put them on windows for that reason, (unless its an extra sticker?? but then it means 2 tanks...)

it is very rare that both front and rear plates are unusable or unreadable in one prang....therefore number plates (dead centre) is the spot!!

When my SIL converted my P38 to LPG a month or so ago he pop rivetted the little metal plates on to the number plates. I don't know where he got them from - perhaps they came with the kit.
