Relays in Battery Box

Hey all,

this may seem like a stupid question, but what are the fuse bank and relays in the battery compartment under the passenger seat for?? Four fuses, and two relays, and they don't look like an aftermarket fit for any accessories.

(and yep, I know I can start yanking them out and seeing what doesn't work any more :D )

I'm not sure, but I think it's all A/C. When I removed the A/C from a 300Tdi Defender, all of that came out as part of the A/C loom. It would make sense, as the A/C is a post production Australian fitment.

It perhaps doesnt help, but no Defenders in the UK have anything other than a battery in the passenger side battery box.

All relays and fuses are either in front of the gearstick, or next to the ecu under the drivers seat. That includes the air-con stuff too.

I suspect it is definately either a DIY fitment or something that the Australian LR dealers do prior to selling??

On TDI defenders the air con was locally fitted as the factory system was not up to the Aussie climate and the relays for the air are in the front of the battery compartment

Out of interest whats the difference between the factory aircon and the locally fitted unit?

The locally fitted one is supposed to work better. I find the vents and windows work best still. Hardly ever use mine. Doesn't help the switch is broken.
