Went to Autobarn today and got a price on a fuel filter for the 98 300 Tdi Disco I have. Well the nice gentleman behind the counter said he would find out for me, when he came back he said that there was non in stock but he could order one for me $98.40. I said excuse me but I only want to buy one not ten, yes sir that's the price for one he say's.:o:o

It has been 10 years since I bought a fuel filter for a diesel Land Rover and that was for the 200 Tdi Defender I had, and I'm sure I only paid about $15.00 for it. So how much should I be paying for a fuel filter?

Hey mate

I had a very similar experience looking for a filter.

I went into Supercheap and they didn't have any listed in the book, so I went to Bursons. I was quoted $86 :o

In the end I went back to Supercheap and had another look through the book again. My filter wasn't listed under Defender 300 Tdi but just as a Landrover 1993-1999 or something ridiculous like that :(

Cost me $40 for a Ryco filter

My trusted mechanic just fitted a new fuel filter for me and charged me $18.50 for the part. I don't know what brand he fitted but he's a long-time Landie fanatic so I'm pretty confident it wasn't a crap version.

How does $16.36 + GST grab you for a Donaldson P550388 fuel filter ? :D

Parts and filters for a Land Rover shouldn't be expensive. ;)

I've been getting Fuel, Air, Centrifugal and Paper Oil Filter for the TD5 from CLR4WD for similar money to Repco and Dealer Fuel filter only price. These are usually a mix of genuine and Bearmach.
I know the post wasnt refering to TD5, but these guys carry stock for all LR Dieso.

Cheers

Mark;)

Don't get me started on Repco...

My mate recently had to get some break hoses for his Toyota - Repco quoted him $40ea

Needless to say he was pretty annoyed when I told him I payed $22ea for break hoses from MR Automotive for my IIA :D :D :D

I find it horses for courses though sometime one is way cheaper than the other.
For example SuperCheap does the bottom radiator hose for my RRC for about $15 but are more expensive than the dealer for the top hose.

I usually call at least two parts places to check if I even slightly suspect its over priced.

Something along the lines of:

How many times have you tried to brush the bug off your screen when viewing a post by Rick130?
