G'day all.
I was just wondering if anyone has any information about the bushfire that hit the lithgow Area in december 1997. I was only little at the time it happened so i don't remember a lot of what happened, as it holds significance to our family, I thought about researching it for my Disasters Unit for my HSC science course. but after looking around on the net, i can't find much information.....

Does anyone have any information that could help me??:confused:

Cheers

no...

But if there was a death involved (condolences if this involved your family) then there would have been a Coroners Report. You should be able to get a copy of it under the Freedom of Information ACT.

You'll have to google that process though.

Good luck,

Pete

Don't know anything about that fire (probably Bushie does, send him a pm) but my daughter did something similar when she was at school using the 1980 Waterfall Fire, which I was involved in:(

Thanks Pete, I've started to google the inquest into the fires, and so far have got a little information on the four blokes killed during the fire... altho some of that information is not quite right,

There were only two Deaths caused by the fire
COLIN EATHER,
TED HUGHES (My uncle)

And I extend my condolences to the family of those brave men who passed away during all of the fires in 1997

And a I decided this afternoon, I'm joining the Local SES on Monday, and the local bushfire brigade at there next meeting.

I may be able to dig something up through work, pretty sure we have some info for the Lithgow fires. I know I have copies of the Wingello incident that occurred at the same time. - Give me a couple of days.

Call up the Lithgow rural firies. The bloke who is (I think) still the captain there lived across the road from my place up in Mount Vic and I was talking to him about them a couple of months ago - well, he was telling me about the fires that year down at Jenolan Caves.

MIck,

I haven't heard back from the guy i think would have the info (he was on Holiday up to last monday). I'll give him a couple of more days.

What sort of time frame are you looking at ??

Another source of info would be Lithgow city council, I'm almost positive they would have a copy of any reports. I know the matter was referred to the DPP for possible legal action against (I think) volunteers but was dropped.
