I am selling my wife' car (editted :) ) at the moment and there is one interstate buyer who is interested on the car.
My question is, because going to take it outside Victoria, how do I transfer the car or what sort of Vicroads form I need to fill?
I know it better off if I call Vicroad directly but I just wondering whether anyone has done this before and can give me any advice. Thanks.

Did you/seller fill any Vicroads form? or the seller just give you a receipt as proof of ownership?

No I got a reciept from him, drove back to Cairns obtained my own RWC, then posted the plates back to the seller.

I would fill out a vehicle disposal form getting the purchaser to sign and then if they want to cash in the remaining rego they can send the plates back to victoads and receive the refund.

I recently sold a Rangie to the NT. I spoke to VicRoads and they told me just to fill out an application for transfer of registration when the buyer picks it up. If this is signed and dated by both buyer and seller you are covered for any speeding fines etc

I would be selling it unregistered, drive the buyer to a Vicroads office where they can get a permit to drive unregistered vehicle, remove the plates and hand them in there and then. no worries then about revenue cameras, accidents, insurance claims, etc.

So, are you selling it registered? If not, you do not need to do anything except provide the buyer with a receipt with the engine number, VIN and your License number/ personal details.
If you are selling it registered you have two options which all revolve around the Roadworthy Certificate. Different States have different names for it. Anyway..........
1. Registered with VIC roadworthy
Fill out all transfer forms from Vic Roads (only 1) and the buyer will have to lodge it with Vicroads (they will have to fill in a different form to say it is registered to an interstate address) then when they get to the state they reside in, simply apply for a change of plates and update of registration form.
2. Sell it unregistered and have the seller get a permit to drive it to their residence. This only covers them in Victoria so they will also need one from their state vehicle authority.
This is what happens for transfering to VIC HERE (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/HowToRegisterOrTransfer/RegistrationRequirements/InterstateVehicleRegistration.htm)

If you are selling unregistered all you need to do is provide a receipt as proof of ownership. Keep a copy for yourself, to cover you for speeding fines etc. You then return the plates to VicRoads. There is no reason to sell it registered if it has to go interstate anyway. If the new owner wants to drive it back you can leave it registered till he gets home and then he sends you the plates back. You then cancel the registration. If he does not send the plates back you cancel the registration after the agreed time anyway.

Yes that what he wants. So the receipt will cover me from speeding fine, etc?
