Down at Port Kembla is the interesting Wave Generator
producing 286 kw
capacity to power 500 homes
capable to put 500kw back into grid
small desaination plant capable to produce up to 2000 litres a day
cost 10c per kw and $1 to produce 1000 litres of fresh water

Interesting. That the wave pushes air to spin the turbine
and creates a vacuum, when the wave pases, still spinning the turbine
in the same direction till the next wave starts the cycle again.

That's clever. Bit of an eyesore, but very practical.

Hi groucho, Im a "local" who works in visual distance off the generator and heard a rumor that they where going to hook it up to the grid but that has now fallen through. Do you know anymore?

Hi Frantic. I would say that is true. I go past it every day and there is all the cable work there. They even had a diesel generstor powering the thing for some reason. I only got the info from the fellows who run it, as i stopped to ask. I think they had trouble getting acsess through PKCT property to run the cable to the sub station or something like that. I don't think it will be
ever be hooked up to the grid. Good in theory though. Could be wrong though.......

Dont know if their doing the generator bit, but they are certainly doing the Desalination plant down at Wonthaggi. Work had started on that before last Xmas when I went fishing down at Williams Beach (?) there. And there is talk of them locking off a and making an "exclusion zone" of about 2km which has put the wind up a few folks by the sound of it.
I personally think the Wave generator is an excellent idea, and we should have more of them,,and hooked up to the grid.

With all the waving the queen and pope do there must be potential for them to be hooked up to one of these :Rolling::Rolling::Rolling:
