Have just received this today. Really nice looking unit. Will install the radio inside the panel under the steering wheel. Just need to sort out the best spot for the microphone. Very happy.

Great bit of gear...not cheap but I rationalised it by figuring that I didn't need to buy an overhead console to fit a radio. Mine is fixed to the side of the centre cubby on the Defender. The mike/disply unit lives in the cubby when not in use and is clipped to the dash when in use.

I am about half way through fitting mine. I fitted it upside down under the floor of the center cubby box, ran the extended cable to the right of the fuse box. This enables me to unplug the handset and put it out of site when not in use. I will hang the display to the right of the car radio console somewhere. Still working that bit out. I wanted it placed fairly close to me so I could hear it over the 4BD1.

OK...have fitted the Icom - many thanks to Boxer and Leesy for their help...

Here are some pics....

Aerial cable followed the IPF's wiring...

Mounted the transceiver unit's bracket with double sided tape onto the drop down panel - slid unit in.

Mounted the microphone onto an existing bracket which had been used by the previous owner to mount his Nokia in-car phone kit. Curly cord feeds into gap in drop down panel.

Connected aerial and power....

And all is good.

Thats the unit I have - posted pics about 6 months ago. Mine is located up under the passenger kick panel to the steel braces and the mike sites on the rubbish draw under the left middle vent near HVAC...very very nice unit and does scans nicely too.

Cheers
