I had just started on my trip down to ACT when i had to pull over for the baby. Mrs was looking after her so i got out of the car to find a big patch of tranny fluid under the car and the bottom of the car dripping. I turned around nusered it home, had no problems driving home and loaded up the crummydore to drive down to ACT.
When i got home i cleaned it up and started the car to wait to find out where it is leaking. I thought it might be a tranny cooler line but its leakin from up near the starter motor
so i'm thinking its the input gearbox seal. has any one had this problem before or got any tips before i start to pull it down?

There are several plugs in the front of the gearbox up there behind the starter could be one of those. Also check your breather located behind your charchoal canister up against the firewall on the passengers side, it may be blockes. I have not heard of input seals going before (apart from the message i got on ebay a few hours ago :) )
Take the cover off the bottom bellhousing and see how much oil is in there too.

well i got a few hours to look at the car today. nothing is easy working on range rovers :wasntme:
i checked the bell housing, it was bone dry. the leak is coming from just up near the starter. i didn't get the starter out ( couldn't get one bolt of the headers so gave up before i got a match and a can of fuel) but i can feel were is coming from and its dry on the other side.
what could be making it leak from here? i have no idea.

There are 2 pipes/hoses that run to the auto cooler at the front of the car so I assume it's one of these that's leaking. I can't recall where they run exactly though.

Nowhere near the starter though. One is in the top passengers side, the other is in the bottom middle.

got it all back together today checked the oil level. it was just over full. took it for a 320 min drive and no leaks. looks like the whole problem was the box had to much fluid in it and over flowed when it warmed up properly. it is the last time i'll get the brother in law to do a service (he worked for a rover service place for the 1st 2 years of his apprenticship)

the overflow/breather is normally behind the black box on the passenger side of the firewall. I dont know why it would be coming from the drivers side.
