Hi all,
After Bundalene's post this morning I thought I should fill in a few gaps. BM & I have our long service leave and are heading off around the country in a generally clockwise direction for the next 3 months.
The trip has been meticulously planned over the last 18 months down to the finest detail. Thus we have no idea where and when we will be anywhere except for a few key dates.
Townsville by the 6 July
Melbourne by the 31 July
Tasmania from 3 - 11 August
Back at work in October:(
Other than that, we are going to go where things take us. We have a few things we really want to see and several others we'd like to see. Had planned on a few days in Sydney, but I also have to get down to see my folks in Victoria as my father's been ill. Plus I'm not real keen on bringing nearly 12m of truck and trailer into Sydney's traffic.
We had intended to drive out this coming Monday and start the trip, but as we are so well organised we have delayed this until Tuesday so we can properly pack the car and trailer.
I'll post up reports as and when I can whilst we travel. Internet will depend on NextG coverage. I have a Flickr site and am going to try to start a blog as well. So more information to follow on those two.
So look out for a silver Puma 110 with a platinum Kimberley Kamper in tow. Give us a wave if see us, we will wave back to other vehicles, not just Land Rovers (or call us on the UHF).

While sydney city is a pain,, its worth the trouble.
You could travel in by train from an accomodating AULRO members house,,,
You could dump the trailer at said house and drive in,,
Go to Manly and ferry across (my preference)
I've been past it 3 times now due to time contraints,,

Exactly right....and you dont have to go into city to get to said aulro members house....and you dont even have to drive into city to site see if you dont want from said aulro members house as I believe they are less than a 5 min walk to the train station which is a direct line and 40mins to get to circular key;)

If, as Pedro suggests, you come out to Manly, just don't expect to see much beach, we seem to have lost it for now, but i'm sure it'll be back soon...At high tide you can jump into the water off South Steyne sea wall!

Cholesterol's fine, but all the same pork belly is not high on my cuisine list. That's what's so special about German restaurants - Pork, Sauerkraut, Wurst und Bier. I'll stick to just the bier bitte.

Well the Defender is packed, the Kamper is packed, the house is tidy, the lawn mowed...
So tomorrow - early, probably 0500 - we will hit the road. Thus I won't be on the forum as much over the coming 3 months, but I will drop in from time to time to see how you are all behaving and post updates.

Thanks but from all reports the Bush Taxis aren't even 1/10th as bad as the freight trucks. There's been a number of incidents reported about them.
Have fun. :)

Sorry, giving Brisbane and the SE a miss so we can explore the SW:)

If you want to spend a few days in Sydney I'll happily lend you a Corrolla to drive round in (while I borrow your Defender :) ).
although I live in the heart of the city on a street so narrow and full of cars that parking would be an issue.....
Have a great trip - hope it's hassle and incident free.

Stay safe, as for:
Plus I'm not real keen on bringing nearly 12m of truck and trailer into Sydney's traffic.
Ya big chicken....
Last time I passed through there on a trip, we crossed the harbour bridge, camper trailer in tow at 8:30 on a friday morning ....:eek:
And they say the outback is challenging ...
Have fun mate... look forward to the pics......
