This Morning I had to go down to Auto-One to pick up some engine Oil to replace the old engine oil in the Range Rover , since replacement of the head gasket I hadn't replaced the Engine Oil.:D

once I picked up the oil and paid for it I went back to the car and shoved the oil infront of passeger seat and with keys in the ignition ,tried cranking the motor over to start it , but it wouldn't Start:mad:.

I could hear a Click , but noooooo cranking...

anyhow after few minutes of Fart-assing around & I kinda knew I had a Flat battery I ask a Bloke in the car Park , Excuse me , would you mind giving me a Jump start with the Rangie Bonnet up so I can start it up , i think I have a Flat battery ...He Replies , urm , does it have ......Urm.... does it have ....urm ...... " no sorry I don't want to Spike my ECU ? okay , i've Jump started a few people with my rangie and I've never spiked or done any damage to my puter....okay no worries I'll call NRMA to come over and Jump start the rangie.

Got on the phone with NRMA and after a few minute of waiting in phone q, I got thru and spoke to a very pleasant young lady who took my details down and advised me that the NRMA repairer should be there anywhere up to 90 minutes. I said ok , no problems , I'll wait.....and sat inside the rangie and waited for the NRMA repaire to show up.

15-20 minutes later the NRMA repairer showed up ( wow that must be a record ??? ) but he didn't look very pleased to see the Rangie in the Car park  . I wonder what was going through his mind at the time , ( perhaps another rangie with Elektrickery Gremelims ) don't know. :D

So he gets out and walks over , I asked him how he was doing? he replied , "he was doing alright till he showed up and saw the rangie ???? but I think I only have a flat battery I says.

Anyhow I popped the Bonnet for him to take a look , and quite to his surprise he couldn't believe his eyes , I doubt he's ever seen a Rangie with no oil wheeping or leaks anywhere. he even said himself that he was surprised to see one this clean ,He said they usually come withy Factory fitted Oil leaks.:D

.....He asked me about the age of the vehicle and a few other questions , He even said that the Motor is really quite

I explained that I had recently had to pull the heads off it and had them serviced and took my time putting it all back together with the correct seals/ loctites / gaskets , and tried to do it properly , told him if done propertly they should not leak and there is the Proof.;) so anyhow he went back to his Van and pulled out a set of Jumper leads and shoved them onto his battery terminal inside the back of the Van and then connected them to my battery asked me to walk over to the Keys still inside the Ignition and start it over . with 1 small turn of the Keys , the Rangie Fired up:cool:. he still could not believe how easily " the old girl " fired up .So he measured the Votlage accross +ve and -ve battery terminals with the Engine running , Only 12.30 volts :( so either The Alternator is not charging or there is something else wrong. I will need to further investigate this later.

I'd just about bet on the alternator. May be repairable, but they are not all that expensive, although I don't know what one the Rangerover has.

Our Local guy who does my regos is also amazed that some Rovers don't leak.:)

Is the charge light showing up at all of staying on after you start it?

Brushes,Diodes and regulator are no drama in those alternators. A stator or rotor gets expensive..If the rear bearing fails they can be a drama:( I'm fairly sure some Lucas generator bearings can be made fit though with some machining.

Tony, the charge light comes on but it's a very dim light on the dash , after a while it seems to disappear.

For those of you interested to know and it probably is not going to be Many:p all that was wrong with the Rangie .....IT wasn't the Alternator ??? the Cable from the battery to the Starter Motor Solonoid was Loose.

with the Voltmeter accross the +ve & -ve Battery terminals with Engine Running , I measured 14.6 volts ( i think ) where as before it was 12.3v.
