Yep - the 1429 prefix jumped out at me. ;) That chassis number would make it a '59 (fourth number is the year in Series IIs) so later than the 2L variants. Always worth asking though!

Well worth restoring... It looks like it has not been bastardised to much in the past other than a few scars and the butler lamps being absent.
I have two early S1s here and the only one I want to restore is the narrow springed butler lamped one, They look great and are a bit rare compared to others.
I like the wife's comment:D
That will be an awesome restoration.... Looking at your disco Ute it should be easy for you but still a lot of work involved.

Hi Lane, to be honest I'm not sure what the colour is called. That is the original colour of the vehicle though. As I understand it, that was something special for the final run of the IIa's, but one of the series gurus will know better than me - I just own it. :(

Looks like Limestone to me. ;)
Well that's really neat, because I have three litres of it in a tin waiting for my ute and I had never seen one painted all over in it. I presumed they only used it for roofs and wheels, but I liked the idea of it all over. Now I have seen it and it looks fantastic. :)
Much better than Bahama Gold, but don't tell anybody currently building a Series III... :o;):p

Restoration work has slowed due to work..........but getting there.
There were 4 of these in service with the Snowy Hydro - with only 3 remaining (4th one was wrecked) would be nice to get them all together again at the next Cooma 70th event.

So Wayne, if there was an unwanted fire at your place (that wasn't threatening your shed of course), which vehicle would you take to extinguish it?

Hi there
which vehicle would you take to extinguish it?
Thats is a problem - but usually the 54 (very nimble/quick and easy to operate single handed).
The others just pump to much water - they were initally designed for areas with lots of water.
The collection has got a little out of hand but being a firey and a strong supporter of History they have been preserved for future generations (not wrecked like most)
All the best

what motor/gearbox are you running that SIII yyeessno?
It has a ford falcon engine from some stage in the 60's and the gearbox/transfer case are out of a Hilux.
It works really well- the engine is smooth and sweet and the gearbox is pretty tight. (dare I say better than the original!?)

The easiest way Jack is to get the URL (address) of your picture.
In your case this was " http://s947.photobucket.com/albums/ad316/1jacknz1/?action=view¤t=CIMG1929-1.jpg"
This needs to have " " at each end to display it in your post.
You can acheive this by selecting the little mountain looking symbol up the top and copy the address of the pic in there.

Still has the original 2l that runs like a dream. Will be an easy restore, I think it's been done before the panels are all straight and you can see some of the orignal grey paint on the bonnet.

This is my wee mongrel (also un-named) - any suggestions welcomed...
1967 Series 2A station wagon, repowered with a T**ota 3 litre B diesel and 5 speed box. She has early 110 doors (lift up door handles), defender grill and centre panel and a fibreglass defender bonnet.
A previous owner has fitted a series 3 dashboard and an aftermarket heater of some sort.
I`m in the process of painting her massey harris red, with limestone roof and wheels, with assorted chequerplate bits and pieces to cover dents and let me walk on the wings and bonnet.
I`ve just fitted some 7.50 michelin XZL`s and she is fantastic off road, as I had the springs attended to last year.
The rear seats were custom made for a mid nineties P38A and are leather, with integral 3 point belts (for teh kids). They cost the guy I got them from $2.5k NZD, and me $300, but it means the children can come in 'dads truck'.
This is my 5th landy so far and the best by miles - it was a wedding aniversary present from my wife :)
I`ve just rebuilt the back door, with a skin of 3mm chequerplate sikaflexed and riveted onto the original (which had torn), and added a 3rd hinge as well.
The bumper is a work in progress being a 7mm thick section of channel :P
I know shes not original, but that was never the intention - she was my work truck for two years (I work as an engineer), and was used for carrying survey and geotech equipment around otago as well as towing the odd 2t excavator.
I think shes earned the garage :)

When I've been in Australia, I've lived around Melbourne since 1996, and in that time I've owned a Mini Moke and then two S2A's. I cannot recall a time when I have ever bothered locking them...LOL...of course that was problematic with the Moke...but, never leave anything worth 'nicking' in them and yet, 'touch wood' have never been violated....just lucky? Or, is the average 'Tea Leaf' not interested/bemused at the possibility?
Practice and experience of others?
Coming from a small country town of 2K+...my Mum and Dad are yet to lock their doors/windows...even when away on holidays..LOL..I don't think they can remember where the keys are!

Yeap iv seen it there many times! always thought it was a neat unit! Tell him to keep an eye out next year (if he still goes) for a D1 with Grover written on the windscreen.
James.

Nice looking landies - looks like your going to have to take over the shed and get working.
Garry
After watching "A 4x4 Is Born" it makes me wish i had a shed like his! we have the shed... plenty of room in there, if all the crud was removed and some essential tools were added ;)

If you get a chance, have a look under the bonnet. It's the cleanest 2.25 engine bay i've seen

Here is a few pics of my SIII 2.25D SWB. Got to love the mix of brush/spray painting by the previous owner! I've since put a set of original rims on the beast.

SWB truck cabs do look pretty sweet. Thanks! I can't decide whether it looks meaner with or without the defender bull bar and spotties......

Hi James,
Does the Defender bar fit straight on or is the chassis different at the front?
I'd like a bar for my 2a one of these days.
Thanks

Well...as I found out yes and no! If the bull bar is still attached to the nudge bar, then no, the defender nudge bar has slightly wider 'tongue's which are also slightly shorter, so the nudge bar comes into contact with the wings and won't mount on the chassis. You could grind the tongues down slightly and reduce the width and it would fit, but then the nudge bar would come in contact with the wings. If, like mine you can unbolt the defender bull bar bit from the nudge bar, it is possible to bolt it straight onto the series nudge bar and chassis. I'll take some photos. I haven't full bolted it together yet - just a dry run. Still have to angle grind off the bits of the ad-hoc bar the previous owner had made and welded in place....grrrr.
