I picked up my 'new' Isuzu 110 this avo :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

and you couldn't wipe the smile of my face.

The only thing that isn't quite right is a light knocking in the rear. I noticed it in the pre-purchase drive and it was sent to the shop to be fixed before I bought it (that is where I picked it up from). They said the load leveler was the problem, and redid the ball joints.. but still there is the little knocking..

It seems to happen on both sides or can be caused by a little bump on either wheel.

It has the load leveler, polyairs, and the swaybar. At first when I looked I thought the the bushes on the swaybar as they locked like they were not filling the eyelet but then I moved the 110 and looked again and the bushes looked fine. Is this normal?

What else should I look for? I'd rather have some idea myself than take it back and 'no please again'...

Also, do all the bits need nylon nuts? (so I can unscrew things and move them around to see if that is the problem... like shocks etc) if so, what sizes should I buy?

Cheers guys,
Flagg.

Hmmm,

It is obviously a lemon and you need to send it down here to me, I'll pay freight though!:p

Seriously, the load leveler itself can be noisy internally, or the A frame ball joint could be worn, or it still may be shock rubbers.

To check the ball joint, get a tyre lever or jemmy bar and try levering the A frame up from the diff housing against the pressure exerted by the load leveller, if it moves even a little vertically, this is enough to cause knocking.

Would it cause any problem if I just unbolted the load leveler and removed it to drive around for a while and find out if it really is causing the noise?

As JC said, it is possibly the A frame ball joint. I would check it as JC described before undoing anything......Brian

If the knock also occurs when accelerating/decelerating it would be worth while checking for movement/slop between the axle splines and the driving member. Although IIRC you should have oiled wheel bearings and this wear only started to occur when Land Rover introduced greased wheel bearings - with the Defender and Discovery range.

for the record, it was the load leveler. I have polyairs, and as such was told that could do without the leveler... and so far so good. I really don't notice a difference except there isn't the donk donk noise all the time.

Considering the cost of replacement.. it may well stay this way unless there is something important that the LL does that I need (like safety etc)
