Shake, shake, wobble, shake, wobble

I'm starting to get motion sick as I watch for the 5-0s in my door mirrors. I'm used to a bit of mirror shake from old cars, but this is bonkers ... although if I blink in time with the shake it might eliminate any blind spot :D

I've pulled the mirrors off (and discovered the nuts drop inside the door) and discovered that the screws are already tight ... so are there any easy mods - little brace bars or anything.

Or do I just take the attitude that anything smaller doesn't matter and anything bigger is a road train so best get out of the way :o

Bugger I have not noticed that the Dfe have mirrors :eek:
I was under the impression that these devises where only for the ladies to do their make up :D

There is no mechanical fix for this.

One just needs to move in synchrony with the rhythm.

If not apply make up prior to departure.:D

If its a vibration/resonance thing then perhaps sticking a small weight onto the mirror housing might make a difference.

Factory fix,as follows..

Drill 1/2" hole into mirror pod
Pure in quick drying cement
Blank off hole with 1/2" grommit

No other options available.

Well that sounds pretty definitive ... but i'll give anything a go :)

Is it the housing or the just the mirrors themselves that are shaking?

I ask because the mirror glass on both sides has come loose on the Defender here. The left one was pulled off at about 90km/h so we didn't lose it... :eek:

The fix was just to reapply some adhesive to the mirrors. Don't know exactly what sort was used, as it was only a 15min warranty job.

Good point Geoff ... I think it could be both the housing and the mirror tbh, perhaps I should pay more attention...

now what would I rather play with quick drying cement or adhesive :angel:

yes there is,
on the 90 i locktited all the bolts for the mirror arm.
next, under the mirror body there is the ball and washer the holds the lot together. the washer is flared to suit the ball, its all held in by an allen screw.
take the washer off and try and hit it flat, do actually hit it flat but try and change its shape enough as to make it bite more on the ball. this washer IS really hard, you will be supprised as to how hard you have to hit it:eek:

put the lot back together, again loctite on the allen screw.

my mirriors were still shakey but i could read a number plate 10 cars back on the freeway.
