Edit:
I don't particularly mind buying 2nd hand ,if it means I'm going to get a quality stand.

I bought one new off eBay when I bought my engine crane.
Can't remember how much it was but it wasn't much... say $75?
It is "rated" to 900kgs, and certainly seems strong enough to hold up a 2.25. Should be okay with a V8 too I would think...

Have a look at one of the "tool box" stores dont know if theres any round your way I go to the one in Narrellan,
they have a 3 in one peice of kit thats an engine stand, engine crain and gear box jack all in one when I saw it I thought what a bloody great ideia
3 peices of kit rolled into one
so insted of haveing large stuff in 3 places its all stored in no more room than the engine crain takes up

Do not buy the T shaped one in the first pic. They are unstable if moving it around under low. Buy a C shape one and the highest rating you can afford. I am about to buy a new one as well and looked at th crane engine stand combo, but will get individual units so the crane can be used for other stuff on its own.

I looked at the ones from Kennards Hire and as soon as i saw the T-shape engine stands it reminded me of a mate whom years ago was rebuilding a Ford engine in his garage using one of these T-Shapped stands, not exactly sure how but suddenly the thing toppled over and nearly crushed all his toes and took his leg with it.:o
Ideally I would like to have a seperate Crane and a Seperate Stand , but having a single garage and limited space doesn't really help.:D

thats it, but the one I saw had a gearbox jig on top of the crain
all the extres are removeble from the crain, so relley there all seperet bits
I'm gonna convert my crain so's it'll take the g/box jig as well

I've got this one. It's been given a hiding. About 4 engine changes in about 4 weeks, and a couple of gearboxes too.
The only thing I would change is the fitment of pneumatic wheels. The little steelies dont run too good through mud and gravel.
Cost under $300 from Sprint Auto.
..............rental on a bare stand stand from the local hire joint was about $60 per day, probably similar for the hoist too. Made the decision to buy real easy. :)

Geez, Sprint Auto I was going to say you would have to be SA without looking at your details;) Usually get my stuff from Pam Luke in Murray Bridge when visiting the parents.

Yep, a friend had one tip on him about 2 weeks ago with his 1HZ motor on it and did a fair bit of damage to his leg.:o

Tony,I thought of that as well , but by the time I buy all the material and fabricate and weld it toegether and get it Painted etc It'll probably work out the same or may be more that a new one , I might as well Just buy a New one. I really only need an engine stand not a Crane :D
