One and all. I need some advice on setting up a laptop to show topo maps and as a gps. To cut a long story my work (Insert Qld Government) requires me to attend remote locations, bush beach and jungle periodically. Unfortunately they don’t supply the goods to do it. They work on the I know you can work it out principle. I have a lap top and have seen GPS connections on Flea bay for under $50.00. Are they worth it, is there a free decent mapping source. Also is there anyone in the Townsville Region who could assist me with setup. Baz:D

OziExplorer is one way to go.

Topo maps are available in many flavours. With a gps you get "Moving Map" which shows you where you are and much much more. Add waypoints, save your track etc. etc.

Search is your friend on this forum :)

There is heaps of info on how to do this in the gps forum.
