I hope someone can help, I finally got around to installing our Warn 8274 winch Today, as this is the first vehicle it has been on I'd like to make sure that the oil etc is alright.

Problem, I have no manual, how do I check the oil level and anything else that needs to be done?.

The free spool clutch seemes to be stuck at the moment, the knob turns, the shaft remains still, I might remove the clutch plate and mechanism Tommorrow to free the gears.

We bought the winch from the Trading Post a little while before we started the Isuzu engine conversion, the previous owner never installed it, we opened the box, everything was there except the owners manual. We ran the winch Today for the first time Today to install the wire ..... I'm happy.

You don't turn the freespool, you pull it in and out

You need to split the case, via 3 capheads, to check the oil....and clean the build up of grunge that will have formed on the gears:D

Pull don't turn ... got it ... my bad.

How high is the oil level suppose to be or is there an indicator inside?

Thanks for the links Martyn, lucky I don't have to worry about a rebuild at this time, unless there are seal problems.

If there is then drain and fill plugs will be added to the case while it's apart.
