Hi Guys
For any of you that go out on boats call into your local Coles for bait. They have their own brand of baby octopus(for human consumtion) in the freezer section.1kg for around $12.Snapper/Duhies and other bottom dwellers should love them.A whole one would go nicely on a 6/0 hook:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
PS try them marinated and BBQed,they are loverly.Sick thing is when you throw them on the hotplate they come back to life and try running away:cool::cool::cool::cool:Anybody with a weak stomach that sees this wont touch them, all the more for oneself!!!
I would buy them more often, except they are product of vietnam,I try and avoid any fish farmed in sewers they call rivers.
ENJOY

Hi Andy!

Thats SOOOO Spooky! I was at Coles an hour ago and saw the frozen packs there for the first time!!!
Didn't notice they were farmed in Vietnam though, I have a customer who farms these in the south of Tas and i'd rather support HIS industry.

It is hilarious to watch them run away on the BBQ plate. Nothing funnier than doing it to someone who has never seen it.
My boy wanted Octopus a few months back so we got one from a supplier and cooked it. It was a fair sized one and watching it try to climb out the pot was funny. They are actually dead just residual electricity in their body.
I actually prefer fresh squid for Snapper. Have only had very limited success with Occy.

Hey Craig
I just thought it was thier legs shrinking with cooking heat.
Young bloke at work tried some on the weekend,we told him they were snap frozen and still alive so be carefull to cook them properly and dont get bitten:D:D:D:D
Hey Ron,the same young bloke had a jar of pickled octopi at work last week.We told him to be very careful as people have died instantly from eating baby blue ring octopus accidently included in the jar.Watching him inspect every one 3 times over was priceless.
Teasing children is good fun:cool::cool::cool::cool:(20 going on 12)

The said Child,AND the other Child we employ just turned up at my back door.
They both got into lots of trouble for 4x4ing in the drains arond town making a mess.
The boss(who is on long service so Im him now) told them there is as much mud and puddles as they can handle along the old railway line to Darkan.I was out there today with one of the children pointing out this is where Tony said you can play.I told him dont phone me if you get stuck!!!Tony did point out that when you get bogged nobody will care or find you. There is now a Rangie with its bonnet underwater needing recovery.
Sorry boys,I aint going out tonite.

Yep that too (shrinkage) of course when doing on a hot plate. Keep forgetting I deal more with fresh stuff down here than frozen.:p It is amazing how long occy, squid and cuttlefish will store some residual elektrickery. The one we did for brock was a big bugger and was in water so would not think it should shrink as we were boiling it and it was almost as though it was trying to climb out the pot. Really funny to watch. Cooked it then marinated it some more. I hate the stuff.
