Well, I'm shocked.....for 2 reasons.
1 - I saw 4 of the latest Defenders (Pumas?) on the road in the space of an hour.
2 - not one of them returned my raised hand.
I was in my Disco, and driving a country road.
What's the deal, don't the dealers tell them that this is what LR drivers do?

Defender & series drivers seem to wave to each other, the disco drivers seem to miss out, thats just the way it is.

Went for a drive to Ipswich the other day with junior in his Puma, got some big waves from almost every defender driver we saw......

And also met a very helpful AULRO member:)

I wave to all Land Rovers - I always (well, nearly) get a return from other Fenders - very rarely from anything else. In fact, only once has a Disco waived back. They (the disco drivers) have never initiated the wave. I guess I haven't run into you, mate!

I guess we Fender drivers might think - why bother? These people don't deserve to grace the glory of the green oval! :p

We've been over this a hundred times before... Defender drivers don't automatically wave to Discos because there is no guarantee that the Disco driver is an enthusiast. Having said that, if you waved first then to not return the wave is just rude. But in the Defender drivers defense, I often get distracted by all the whiz-bang gadgets in my new Defender cabin, like .....um... the radio, and... um.....heater controls and often only notice other Land Rovers when I'm almost past them and it's too late to wave :p.

Landrover Wave?

OH how things have changed over the years. When the Series was the current vehicle in the 70's, every Landrover driver / passenger waved - either in town or out in the bush.

Once you got beyond Dubbo you got others waving as well and once beyond Bourke every car / truck waved.

On remote areas tracks (in those days) such as the Tanami or Heartbreak to Roper, you would not only wave but stop and have a chat boil the billy or have a coldie - asking about road conditions ahead.

The waving probably stemmed from the number of times we broke down (not only Landrovers, other vehicles as well) ;) ;) In those days we always helped each other :) You probably figured that the Landrover you just passed was one you helped, or has helped you, or will assist sooner than later. In those days you wouldn't buy a 4wd if you couldn't repair it!

Now-a-days with UHF radios, Sat Phones, the GPS, road side assistance etc & lots of info from the internet ... we have become far more insulated and don't feel the need to talk to strangers out on the track.

More the pity....

Forgive me father for I Have sinned, for this morning (6.40 ish) I passed a County(?) coming under Leura Mall and did not wave as I too was distracted and did not see him until a wave was too late.

Basically, the way I see it is that the only drivers that wave are Series/County/Defender drivers or drivers of Discos and Rangies that have previously owned such.

Cheers
