Found this on a property I went to today. Couldn't read any numbers except the engine number, but it was a holden red motor.

Hi She looks most likely to be in the range of vehicles R8666000 to R06111546. I see that the id plate is the third plate down screwed to the bulkhead on the passenger side, if you can still read it. It should normally be under the bonnet on the passenger side or the chassis number on the LHS engine mount if its stil there.

LOL I just love the crude cut to make the 86/88 hardtop fit an 80

Would something like this be worth buying, or would it be too much work? (or is that a stupid question?)

It has a sign in the back saying 'For Sale $300', but I don't know if the dude is selling it or has just bought it. He is a shift worker and wasn't home when I inspected his property.

Very much worth buying, what you are looking at is the very first type of landrover

Not sure that I agree completely Mick as there appears to be quite a few parts missing not to mention the Holden engine. :( The body is dented; the roof is wrong and the axles, etc. need checking to make sure they are the right ones. Worth buying certainly but I think $300 is excessive, unless the right engine and ancillarys come with it.

By comparison; my 80", whilst extensively rusted, has a very straight body original engine, axles and gearboxes, with only the fuel pump; hood bows; and wiper motor missing - it cost me $200.

Cheers Charlie

I think finding a 60 year old vehicle with all of its original equipment and in running condition for $300 is a bit of an ask. I would jump at it. Mine was around $300 and requires complete restoration and has a non original engine (2 litre).

Depends on how chopped up or rusty the chassis is ..we cannot gauge that just from the pics . At the very least , the front crossmember will be chopped and I notice the drawbar has been removed or chopped off .

With 90% of these wrecks , all you are buying is the potentially useable chassis and bulkhead,, the rest is normally stuffed and requires rebuilding . A sound chassis and bulkhead are a ideal starting point ... the bodywork is mostly simple to make with a folder .

I would take an 80" for $300 in almost any condition, at a country action 2 weeks ago a 1950 with Holden, most of the body and reasonable chassis, sold for $850. There was a pic of it on here somewhere pink in colour. $300 for the one in the pic I would say is a good value.
