Engine mount lower tie rod

Has anyone replaced their engine mount lower tie arm or the bushings in it ? My engine makes a little clonk noise sometimes when changing gear and I'm fairly certain its due to the non existant bushing in the tie rod as I can recreate the noise by moving the engine by hand.

Wondering if I have to buy the whole arm or if I can get just the bushing from somewhere. Had a good google already and can see a few places sell the arm but can't seem to see the bushing for sale anywhere.

I suspect it is a complete item - you could try various rubbers or nolothane bushings at a good suspension place.

I have had mine out but not for replacement.

My son has a Freelander and I'm looking to help him replace the lower engine mounts.
The one shown in your picture seems to have a lot of movement but the engine seems to have a lot of movement on the other side. I haven't had a look at it yet but from the little I've found on the net it looks like there is a lower mount somewhere on the left which I suspect is broken causing the right hand one to wear.

Big problem is he spent a fortune having these replaced about a year ago at a Land Rover authorised repairer.

Where can I buy these mounts? Are there after market ones or do I have to buy the genuine article?

What is involved in replacing these mounts?

I replaced the tie arm shown at a cost of $146 I think - bought from Melb Land Rover. Very simple item to replace - its only held in with a bolt at each end. I believe this one is the main offender where engine movement/slop is concerned. Replacing mine made a noticeable difference to the way it drives.

Thanks for your reply. My son is home now but it's too dark out to look now.
Is there another mount under the left side of the motor and if so is it difficult to replace? I'll be looking tomorrow morning before he goes to work.

I'm not sure what engine you've got - they probably differ in mounts. Mine is the 1999 L series diesel. Working from memory my one has 2 main engine mounts that support its weight and a tie rod arm support thats in the photo, it also has a long support arm/brace that goes from the gearbox/IRD flange back to under the gear stick.

The top right(drivers side) engine mount is visible from the top with the bonnet open and pretty straight forward to replace/remove - just put a jack under the engine and away you go. It also has a similar (to the photo) looking tie rod support there. The left engine mount is somewhat more hidden and lower down which would require more work to get at. I've never touched that one so can't comment on whats required there. It looks as though once the airbox is removed you might be able to reach it.

And the lower tie rod support arm is a 5 min job as already mentioned.

Since then I've also discovered Ritter - Helping the adventurous since 1976 (http://www.ritter.com.au/) their prices have been better thus far.
