Tectyl rust paint

Hi all:)
As some of you may know i am having troubles with rust in the footwells of my d1 at the moment.
I have tried fixing it once but it just came back, i have been told by members on here about this "Tectyl" rust stuff it is meant to be really good!!!!
Now, i looked for it in town today in a couple of hardware stores, bursons and repco not one of them stocked it:(
Just seeing if anyone on here no's where i can find it, i need it fairly soon because i want to get these footwells fixed as soon as possible:angel:
Any help will be great!!

P.S i was told by a memeber on here that last time he bought some it was under a different name, if this is the case the name would be handy......CHEERS TIM.:)

if you know someone who works in machanical engineerring they should be able to supply you with some, it's used to protect spare parts from rust.

Penetrol or POR15, both good.

You need one of the active surface coatings that contain a phosphoric acid component. Corroless and Rustlac are two that work. Follow instructions. You need to thoroughly clean the surfaces to be coated. These were the only stuff that worked in the ballast tanks of multi-tyre rollers. These are filled with wet sand.

tectyl is a valvoline product, repco should have had it, but you buy it in a 4 litre can.
it is good stuff, as i have said in anither thread, we use it on the floatplanes, not much else cuts the mustard.
have a look at the top of the front door pillars for where the water comes in.

As Harry said, it's a Valvoline product and works very well!. I've used it in the door frames and foot wells of my Disco (among other vehicles). It is available in an aerosol also.

I think the last time I bought it I got it from an Automotive paint supplier, so it might be worth trying a few of your local paint shops.

The last time I bought is was from Autobarn.

Like harry said it comes in a tin but you can buy it in Aerosol can as well.

Valvoline call it Tectyl 506

At Autobarn and posssibly other stores it's produced by "K&H surface technologies"......Anti-Rust protectant cavity wax......same stuff,it has a very distinctive smell.

No it won't damage paint. It drys Tacky not solid hard. Leaves a brown stain.

I actually spray it right onto rust areas.....It's NOT a rust converter and you are suppose to use a rust converter first... but I don't bother. I just scrap off any surface rust and just spray it on. And the only areas it needs regular applications is wheel arches.

You can buy it in a tin and paint it on but when working against gravity and trying to get it into lap joints the spray can version is a much better bet.

I'm pretty sure Kero will get it off, but haven't tried.

olbod.. no you can't paint over it. Used, to go inside doors, pillars ect
Pretty messy tacky stuff. I use 50% tectyl and fish oil... Works good....Mark

Castrol wholesalers have it in both aerosol and 4 litre can.......
