I'm getting old, I didn’t know what OAT technology is in coolant, some research revealed this, it’s "Organic Acid Technology" which means?? I think I'm supposed to be impressed with how far we have come from just tap water to this new bells and whistle stuff.

What started this investigation was the dealer told me to get Castrol NF coolant for my 2.7L TDV6, I couldn’t find it at Repco or Supacheep so I phoned Castrol Tech support and was advised NF is green coolant, Castrol SFO is red with OAT technology but only available in 20 litre drums.

Autobarn has 5 litre Nulon Red Long Life Coolant with OAT tech so it’s better for me than a 20L drum, particularly as it has a 5 year life.

From GTS. Any ethylene glycol based anti-freeze containing no methanol with only Organic Acid Technology (OAT) corrosion inhibitors.

On the D2 you could use the green glycol based coolant in a pinch, although the OAT was preferred. I can't say if that applies to the D3 though. The thing to remember, was never mix them together, you need to flush the system fully before using the alternate.

Next time you are at your dealer / service guy ask if you can get some concentrate in a bottle rfom their 20 litre drum. Usually happy to supply.

And dont think that just because it's red its OAT either, close examination of the label is needed.

Thanks for that Amaruskanic, I have a leak somewhere near the waterpump so am getting prices on a kit, have one price at $180 while just a gasket is $70.2 so will keep topping till I have the ready's for it and a timing belt kit $274, I am told to do the two together. That will be a fun weekend.
