View Full Version : What to replace my lost d40 nikon with

I would like to stay with the Nikon range as I only just starting to work out the format. Dont nessarly want high end but a rugged tough camera.

D90.....much of a step up from a 40 but not enough that you lose what you learnt on not that you would lose it anyway just wont be such a bigger learning curve

Agree with Dullbird.

But, dont discount the D70. There are some good deals on them at the moment as people upgrade.

From what I have seen, there are some new D70s going around at a good price.


Edit: What do you mean you lost it? Is there are story here we should know about?

Nikon D5000 isn't bad from what I have heard on the web!

Any camera you like and then replace the strap with a pair of handcuffs so you don't loose the new one.

If you would consider a used camera (with little use) a D200 for less than 1200 will be a good option.
The replacement for the D200 is the D300 and for the D80 the D90.
All of them are good cameras and will perfor very good even with an average lens.
If you like to use it on extreme weather conditions then the option is D200/ D300. For the normal use the D90 is Ok or a used D80

I'd second that and also add:

The direct replacement for the D40 is the D60 and then the next up is now the D5000. But personally I'd look at the D90 or D300. Nikon has announced the D300s for release next month too.
