Elisabeth picked this up yesterday. Well, I did actually and rode it home for her.

A new CB400 four with ABS. My XJR1300 behind it.

Today we went for our first ride together since about 1972.

I think she's pretty brave. Our son had a bad accident on his first XJR when he was hit by a car and smashed up his leg, and then last year he passed away whilst on a ride.

My sisters berated Elisabeth (but not me) for not stopping Lee from riding. How do you stop a 6'4" tall 120kg adult from doing his thing?

As tragic as it was Ron, we all make our own decisions to do our own thing. I think of it as there are many, many things in life all around us that are equally as dangerous, would we not walk on the footpath in case a tree branch dropped?

I'm glad you two are getting back to your 'youth' again!:)

enjoy!

Very nice...makes me want to get one. it's been about 2 years without a bike, and I'm getting that itch (and no, it's not a rash:p) again.

I said much the same to Elisabeth this week. Fancy not doing something we enjoyed because we might get injured. We might as well stay inside and wait to die. All we can do is take precautions - we don't want to be injured, it hurts!

We are booked in to do the Stay Upright Intermediate course in a couple of weeks. Lee (late son) and I did the American Superbike School Cornering Course together some years ago.

The Two Wheels forum has really been supportive and have welcomed Bucko's Ma's purchase of a bike.

Good stuff, Ron! I agree with your comments on staying inside and waiting to die. We need to get out and live life, not just exist!

We don't have the right to, simple as that.

We can sit at home to avoid accidents, then have a plane crash through the roof. Just live life, taking sensible precautions.

The zipper in the leather pants she had been given had failed so it was a matter of going without. :o

Pants???? Are we supposed to wear pants

Damn... Although, my wife rides in Draggin' Kevlar lined jeans

I ride in shorts, t-shirt, track daks, whatever when around town...:o

On the highway I armour up though!!!

Good on you Ron, and your wife... Excellent to see...

Emma and I love riding together.... She prefers to ride instead of pillion, as I've been known to get up the throttle a little ;)

Here's the little lady on her M50...

Ron,
Great to see you two making the most of life.. I used to ride in my younger days, so I can relate to your decisions.
If I can add to Ians comment above about influencing your kids, you need to get away from "how can you" to "you can't" when mentioning Bucko, kids go thier own way at some stage, if its similar to the path you took, so be it, its a no brainer..;)
Cheers,
David

Good stuff Ron. Hope you and Elizabeth enjoy.:D
I would much rather my kids rode bikes than do a lot of other things in life as long as they enjoy and realise the risks. In fact I have recently bought them a TTR110 to go with their quad.
I will get another road bike, probablly a Harley or one of the clones, but will be a tourer.

You guys have got to tell me the secret on getting the little lady on a bike. Were they into bikes before you met or is there a way of coaxing them on.

Elisabeth had never ridden or pillioned until after we married. We were in Ceduna in 1970 when she learned to ride - on a sprung heel BSA Bantam with virtually no brakes.

She liked it so we bought her a small Yamaha HT1 trail bike (seen in the photo). I'm sure some of my colleagues' wives wondered about Elisabeth being the only woman with a bunch of blokes on bikes - all those bikes in the Ceduna pic were work colleagues. The thing was that she was the youngest wife on site.

Agreed. Most times it would be an exercise in futility anyway. Would be with my kids, that's for sure!
