My 1996 P38 does not have HOS installed. I believe this may have been standard.
My question If I install them will the ECU learn to use them and would I expect better fuel economy.

I don't know but I'd like to. The engine management ECU has a different part no. for non-O2 sensor models.

I though I heard somewhere of somebody who has done this.
My Faultmate has an Option under GEMS for selecting the number of oxy sensors; "not fitted" "pre-cat" and "post-cat"

AFAIK only us models got the post cat sennsors. All models had the electrical plugs for the pre cat sensors, but only cars after 96 got the blanked off ports infront of the cats, however they didnt get the pre cat o2 sensors until after 97. All cars from then on got the sensors pre cat.
