After three years in the wilderness (sort of as I owned a Disco in between) I am back in a Defender. I have been looking for over six months, i tossed up the idea of a brand new vehicle... couldn't fit it into budget, but i found exactly what i was looking for... A 2006 TD5, which is a blank canvas. I pick it up on the weekend and can't wait to be behind the wheels again.

Any thoughts on first mod??

ECU upgrade?

oil pump bolt
remove EGR + silicon hose the intercooler

then fix whats clunky/creaky

then go you're mods.

leave the suspension and tyres alone (well get rubber to suit your needs in the stock size when its appropriate)

see i know where you are thinking td5...i was so anti td5, when dave blknight rocked up in his old mans ...bit of a head turner that truck, i even think i may live with the fact i might buy a td5 in the future when bluey is dead and gone puma is so out the question though lol

I was pretty keen on a Puma, just couldn't get one in my budget (i really tried to get a few dealers down, had one down to 45K with 1700 on the clock). In the end, I am comfortable with the TD5, and I have a few extra pineapples in the back pocket!

Only three more sleeps!

How do silicone hoses help exactly?

wally, the silicon hoses are much smoother inside so the air flow is better.

They also don't colapse like the gen ones as they are stronger. . So they stay round and flow the air better. I have silcon hoses on both my 90 and 110 and makes a far bit of differance. Gives more mid range power. So better for hills and towing and stuff. I also have changed my turbo pipe (one from the turbo to the intercooler ) for a straight pipe instead of the Cripped one that they come with from the factory. (cripped because of the Left hand drive models ). This also makes a differance . But this was both on 300 Tdi's

stop it you bar stewards i have been reckoning up what i have to do to the landy over time i.e. bulkhead etc.

it started small few panels doors an Australian drab olive paint job some chequer plate from mamouth, extreme prop shafts from the u.k. d44 dif cover, new tyres and maybe after market rims....but every time i look on here i end up adding to the list :D.....i reckon by the time i have finished the thing will owe me 30 k :o hope the boss don't work it out

Its here, in my possession :)

After a few years in the wilderness i am back in a Defender.

The TD5 is a BIG change from the 'ol 300TDI. I can put the foot down at 100k's and accelerate. I hadn't noticed the prior owner had put what looks like an aftermarket exhaust on. What is the standard size of exhaust?
