View Full Version : 2.25 diesel rebuild
series3

Gday everyone.
I know cost will vary, but I am wondering what would be a ballpark figure would be for a full rebuild of a 2.25 diesel engine, from a decent, reputable mechanic, and to do a good job.
People say diesels are more expensive than petrols for the rebuild, but does this stick for the humble, simple 2.25 oiler? Or does the higher cost come from something like injectors and pumps?
Cheers.

I think part of the cost issue is that the 2.25 diesel is not very common in australia.
My brother had real trouble getting anybody to even work on his here (although it is tasmania), and sold it before he had gotten the head sorted (had a head repaired, but they didn't do it properly  )

Give Frida at Turner Eng in the UK a ring on 0011441342834713 you will probably find they are cheaper than any rebuild in OZ ,otherwise obtain the parts from them and DIY.

I'm slowly rebuilding my 2.25 diesel for my seriesIII, so far I have bought a set of brand new pistons off eBay for $60 and a full set of brand new valve springs for $15, Gaskets, rings and bearing are all available off dealers on eBay for reasonable prices. All you need to do is find a Quality machine shop to do any block or head work, Regards Frank.

2.25 diesel rebuild $1000 as a DIY for parts only and machining of the crank to take the replacement big end and main journals.
Doesnt include labour, new injectors, overhauling the injector pump,
best guess for a drop in take away overhaul without doing the pump or injectors
$2k
its actually cheaper to get new injectors than service them if you know where to get those from and thats $136 a piece (you need 4 obviously)
if the injector pumps out of whack expect that price to rise substantially as a proper pump overhaul is time consuming and the parts (if primary important specific components are damaged) are not all that cheap.
I can easily see $5K going into a 2.25 series diesel for a top of the line rebuild.

I have 6 diesel engines. I have rebuilt 2 and in the middle of rebuilding my third. Ebay is a good place to start for bearings, gaskets, rings etc. just find someone who knows how to grind the crank the correct way and make sure the head is not cracked because it most likely will be.

I have reciepts for over 5K that came with my S3. New pistons, head work, injectors and pump overhaul. (Also had new clutch and brake work too, so probably around 4K for engine work).
