heelo people, new to this but just thought id let you know what i have.
well i owned a 97 tdi300 wagon for 12 years and thought they it was the only one for me, till i bought an Adventure offroad Camper. The old girl struggled on the hills but we got there. decided to buy the new defender, mainly for the power & g/box, but wife and i had it for 5 months and decided to get rid of it, wife missed the vents, and i found it too soft.
got rid of it for a 97 dual cab that has a 2.8 internation motor, santana lt85 box, disc steering,free wheeling hubs, and its awesome. pulls like a steam train and road handling is better than the new one. no electronics and a lot quieter.has, h.f / uhf radio, winch , snorkel 35ltr fridge between front seats
maxi drive axles front / rear. next project is to design a roof rack to put the tinny on & use the winch to load. keep you posted

Tell me, is you username related to a past occupation? My father inlaw used to be a "jaw bone cutter".

Not many people would say a defender is soft :p. You must be a seriously tough bloke!

The loss of the vents is the only thing I don't like about the new model.

sorry, didnt mean the new one is soft, more like not as strong.
first thing i noticed was the rear doors. when you close them the side panels flex, after talking to a chap in the know he told me that the new ones do have a differant alloy which is lighter. not that i am against anything new, but its a personnal thing. new one is exellent in hillclimbs with the traction control, and good motor gearbox, but we felt cramped with the way the dash panel is set up. Other than that STILL love defenders
