A SILLY QUESTION?

Asked similar to this in other thread previously... but no replies!?!
Any ideas why the various state arms of AULRO wouldn't invest in diagnostic equipment for members to share? Say a fully loaded faultmate MSV-2 for multi-vehicle use.

Perhaps if all registered LR owners in VIC put in $50 we could get a unit to sit at the president or secretarys place and then just book it out and pick up/drop off to a schedule... or am I just dreaming and the LR gods and diagnostic suppliers would not allow it?!?

its not been done because its not needed.

firstly there is a thread (I actually think its a sub forum of its own now) about members with diagnostic equipment in there is a list of people who will own up to owning diagnositc equipment that are happy to help for if not nix then near nix.

secondly Australian states arent exactly small. There are complete foreign countries that are smaller than tasmania (havent yet found one smaller than the ACT) the logistical demands of transporting the diagnostics gear to those who require it would quickly kill the project.

Geez you boys are a negative bunch! I would have thought everyone would be keen to try and work out how it should happen, not how it shouldn't.

I would have thought that it would stay within the control of the president and committee members in each state and be booked on line in a calendar. It could be prudent to require photo ID if it had to leave the premises of a committee member.

Theft, is an unfortunate thing, however in reality its a pretty low instance event that anyones existing insurance would probably cover.

And as far as the map with avail. diag. equip't is concerned, its a truely wonderful thing but just does not provide for every vehicle... it seems there are a lot of Disco owner's able to get support, but not so much for later rangies (for example). However, this could co-exist and continue to function and grow as a lot of people will always want to have their own stuff (and many will always want to share their stuff).

There are quite a few smaller than the ACT, some off the top of my head include Monaco, Lichtenstein, Singapore, Tonga and Bahrain, however I'm fairly sure there are quite a few more. Oh, there is also the Vatican City which I believe is technically a separate nation.

In regard to the original question, the main reason I wouldn't lend such items (if I owned them) to people I don't really know overly well, is because of the possibility of theft - insured or otherwise, I dislike dealing with insurance companies at the best of times so I wouldn't put myself in the possible situation of having to in the first place.

Besides I can imagine the insurance company "Was it secured?" No. "How was it stolen?" Oh, I lent it to someone I don't really know all that well. I don't think it'd go down well.

Yep! ...Thats about the long and the short of it....cannot appear to be progressive in this economic climate....so you save up...buy your own and when I need one I can borrow it Hey!:D:p
