I thought open office was a free program. They are trying to charge for the latest version.Jim

NO they are not!

download: OpenOffice.org -the download will start in a sec- Invitation for Contributing (http://download.openoffice.org/contribute.html'download=bouncer&product%3DOpenOffice.org%26os%3Dwinwjre%26lang%3De n-US%26version%3D3.1.0)

They ASK for a donation but that's all, you do not need to pay a single cent.

Some dodgy non official websites sell openoffice.
But if you get it from the official site OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite (http://www.openoffice.org) its free.

P.S. Although OpenOffice is 100x better than M$ Office, if your doing serious reports/word processing use LaTeX.
It will save you many hours of heartache, and works really nicely with SVN.
