The Fish
2nd August 2009, 08:50 PM
Well after a late night Saturday putting the finishing touches on the new sliders (thanks Hendrik) we called it a night, looking forward to the morning. Hendrik and I made it to the meet point in Beaudesert where faces were put to forum names before heading out to the park for the day’s activities.
First activity on the agenda was to run through the theory of the DARE which was done very well with Bolts the main presenter and input from other members where needed. After the theory was completed we split into 2 groups with those who hadn’t done a lot of driving with the club going one way, while the rest went another. My car was in the second group and first up we went down to the play/flex area to get warmed up. From here we headed out to do a bit more exploring and find some harder tracks. Other then Busman getting acquainted with the Gumboot and TimJ having some trouble with the Game idling there were no mishaps and before long it was time for lunch (thanks Camo).
After lunch and a bit of a chat most people headed home with me, Hendrik, Busman, Buzz66 and MartinG sticking around to have a bit more of a play on some tracks suggested by Bolts. We headed up a track opposite the main office but when we got to the top found that we couldn’t go any further due to a fence, so we turned around and headed back down. Next we came across the bog hole that can be seen in a few of PSimpson7’s photos. Having already been through it twice in the morning I thought I would get through it easily. Well this didn’t happen with my bald-terrains letting me down. With the assistance of a light tug from Busman I was out and we found an alternate route. From here it was up to the top of the hill before coming down one of the harder tracks. All I can say is I wish I had walked it first as it was a bit harder then I was really wanting to do. In the end I got down with just a bend in my steering guard which will be easily fixed with a lump of timber and a sledge hammer. Busman and Buzz66 came down after me with MartinG taking the safe option and taking the easier track back to the main office.
All in all a great weekend and I am already looking forward to the next one.

Was a good day out. Will be back there real soon, its very convenient park being so close to Brisbane. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't take my car, should have done more work on it on Saturday instead of making sliders, as I found out tonight I have a spare thermostat at home. But o well that is that, the D2 will come back stronger than ever...can't wait!!!
Thanks all for a great day

Big thanks to all the Members who organised the DARE.!
Great variety of vehicles. Not many Rangies...:(
I reckon not to many other freelander owners would have been game to take it where we went, nice work. :D
Was great to get out after lunch, and go for a play. Thanks Dan, Hendrik, Busman, and MartinG for a great afternoon bash. :)
My Steering damper already had a couple of dings, but LA Hill killed it. I'm sure I have a few more dings, it's just so hard to tell now!

Finally somebody got a pic of stevo nodding off. I tried at the springs but to no avail
Would have liked to attend and added to the Rangie count but I had to remove an engine from the Disco wreck (sold on e-bay) plus a few other bits.
By the way Camo those flares look 10 times better than those wankey D3 ones you had (plus more durable):twisted::twisted:

Snatch recovery exercise. I wanted to get a shot of the FL2 snatching a Defender :D

Andrew's FL2 sliding down the hill. Only a bit of minor panel damage but I was well impressed with where the FL was able to go...
