I have noticed that when my starter died, the commutator ring where the brushes run is showing through on the conductors which come through from the rear. One of the segments has also peeled away and has lifted off.
Can a new copper segment ring be soldered in or is a complete replacement necessary. I have tried local companies who can't seem to help or are not interested.
I can get a recon starter but quite pricy
Someone also suggested changing the starter solenoid to a coil herse type for better connection although I can hear mine still gives a good "clunk" when the solenoid engages.
Anyone had a similar susessful repair.??
