Hi everyone, looking for a set of steely's for my 110, and also for my old mans 130. 16x7 would be good, don't want to damage my good ones. Been looking on a few forums and maybe king wheels, has anyone else got a set of these in south-east queensland, where and how much. and lift kit, i want to run micky mtz' think 33's will i need a lift kit or will they fit, don't want to cut anything out either. and how much extra travel will i get, i'm new to this so its better to ask these simple questions before i spend few hundred bucks without thinking. Whats everyone thoughts or idea's
cheers

Stock Disco rims are 16 x 7. They might not be rated officially for a 130 but I'm sure there won't be a problem as I've seen them fitted on these before.

they will fit, they will rub in some places...radius arms when turning and maybe rear spring perches, depending on how wide you go with the 33's and what off set you run.

2'' lift is prefered.

cheers phil

What he said. Disco rims are a heavier construction than any other LR or aftermarket rims I have seen. Including 16x6 rims.

Thanks guys, any idea on cost for a set of 5. And what brand and cost is a good lift kit, i've seen anywhere from around $900 to $2500. Another question, how wide an offset can you go before you need to get bigger flares??

They are no longer made, so it depends on what you can pick them up for. I paid around $40 ea for mine and the same again to get the offset changed.

You can run narrow 33's without a spring lift - e.g. up to around 285/75-16.

+30mm extra offset on the disco rims and 285s will have you at about the limit of what the flares will cover.

In that case would it be easier to find a new set of steel rims form somewhere,

I bought 5 Disco steel rims about 8 months ago for $70 each - happy with them so far.

Thanks champ, will these need an offset if i run 285's 33's??

285s on unmodified disco rims will rub the rear coil turrets on articulation. They will also rub the radius arms on lock (unless you move the stop bolts out). No big deal for either.

so looks like offset would be the go as well? thanks for your help Ben.

Yes, but don't go too far or they will rub where the flares meet the body on the rear. I have a set of disco rims with an extra 30mm of offset and 285s and they do that.

About 15-20 mm extra offset is what you would want.

yeah i would of never thought of that, that you could go to far and hit the edge, thanks again. my brothers in law have already picked out creek walls to climb they got a fairly well done up patrol and old hilux, they couldn't do it and they've done a lot of 4x4ing. so i think they're going to try and test it out pretty well, funny thing is i haven't even got the thing yet.:D but beening a landy, always in good hands:thumbsup:

I'm sure you will have fun with it.

Maxxis Bighorn 255/85-16s are pretty cheap and should work well in that sort of terrain (I have these on my +15mm disco rims on the 110).

All of my disco rims were galvanised after they were modified. I can run the at 7psi offroad with no beadlocks. They stick like glue then.

There is some great driving out your way...

I'm running Coopers 255 85r 16 on standard 1998 Defender 130 rims. When turning at full lock they do rub slightly, apart from that they are fine. These tyres are 844mm diameter (33inch) given this one very noticible and positive outcome is the 130's speedo now matches my GPS of which both calibrate to VIC roads speed check Calder Highway Diggers Rest.

If anyone is interested I also have 4 x 16 inch S1 Disco rims for sale with my 130's original Mitchilin tyres fitted, not sure of the size though. The Mitchilins are well down on tread however I do have 1 brand new Mitchelin of the same from the 130's spare rim.

Another question, what other size's in a 33inch is out there? eg 285/75r16 and 255/85r16. no bigger then the 285's?? To me it seems like the 255/85 could be the go, seem to fit better with standard shocks but then 285's better traction being wider what your thoughts guys?
